Business intelligence (BI) is the set of techniques and tools
for the transformation of raw data into meaningful and useful
information for business analysis purposes.

In a 1958 article, IBM researcher Hans Peter Luhn used the term
business intelligence. He employed the Webster's dictionary definition
of intelligence: "the ability to apprehend the interrelationships of
presented facts in such a way as to guide action towards a desired
goal."[4]
Business intelligence as it is understood today is said to have evolved
from the decision support systems (DSS) that began in the 1960s and
developed throughout the mid-1980s. DSS originated in the computer-
aided models created to assist with decision making and planning. From
DSS, data warehouses, Executive Information Systems, OLAP and
business intelligence came into focus beginning in the late 80s.
In 1988, an Italian-Dutch-French-English consortium organized an
international meeting on the Multiway Data Analysis in Rome

Data analysis is concerned with a variety of different
tools and methods that have been developed to query
existing data, discover exceptions, and verify
hypotheses.

Data Mining is the process of sorting through large
amounts of data to identify patterns and relationships
using statistical algorithms. These relationships may
help us to understand which factors affected the
outcome of something, or they may be used to predict
future outcomes

Data analytics focuses on inference, the process of
deriving a conclusion based solely on what is already
known by the researcher.
Data miners sort through huge data sets using
sophisticated software to identify undiscovered patterns
and establish hidden relationships.

intelligence because they both
