The Top 10 Gold Producers

Global Production in 2012

Global gold mine production increased by 3 percent over the third quarter of 2012 to approximately 659 tonnes

This was led by big output increases in Australia, Mexico and Argentina.

The world’s top ten mining companies are largely based in Canada, the USA and Australia.

1. Barrick Gold

$ABX.CA Operates 26 gold mines globally.

Has a goal of reaching 7.6 to 8.0 million ounces of gold produced during 2012.

Company Objective: “to be the world’s best gold company by finding, acquiring, developing and producing quality reserves in a safe, profitable and socially responsible manner.”

2. Newmont Mining

$NMC.CA has operations in eight countries spanning five continents.

At the end of last year, Newmont had proven and probable gold reserves of 91.8 million equity ounces.

Newmount is the first gold company to be a part of the S&P 500 Index, Fortune 500 and Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.

3. AngloGold Ashanti

$AU is a South Africa based top producing company with 21 operations across four continents and ten countries.

At the end of 2009, the amount of both proved and probable ore reserves totalled 71.4 million ounces.

Vision: to become the leading global miner, while respecting natural environments, valuing people and minimizing costs and maximizing profits for shareholders.

4. Gold Fields

$GFI is a producer of gold and holder of gold reserves in South Africa, Ghana, Australia and Peru.

The company reported 78 million ounces of gold equivalent reserves.

Total mineral resources estimated of 281 million ounces.

5. Newcrest Mining

Newcrest operates seven gold mines in Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea

The company is based in Australia

Newcrest is focused on the discovery of new ore bodies to continue its current success

The company is listed on the TSX, ASX

6. Kinross

Kinross is a Canadian-based mining company with operations in South America and Russia.

Last year Kinross reported a gold reserve base of approximately 46 million ounces.

The company’s operating cash flow rose by almost 50% last year to sit at $937 million

7. Goldcorp.

Goldcorp is a TSX-listed international mining company with huge upside potential

The company is forecasting a production increase of 57% over the next five years

Goldcrop’s cashflow in 2009 totaled almost $1.2 billion while it’s production reached 2.42 million ounces

8. Yamana Gold

Yamana Gold is a Canadian gold producer

The company has with significant production and development stage properties, in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Colombia. 

The company has an estimated 19.4 million ounces of  reserves with 46.4 million ounces of total mineral resource estimates. 

9. Agnico-Eagle Mines

Agnico-Eagle Mines is a gold producer with mining operations in northwestern Quebec, northern Mexico, northern Finland and Nunavut. 

The company aims to grow gold mineral reserves to between 20 million and 21 million ounces by the end of the current year through aggressive exploration.

10. Polyus Gold

Polyus Gold is a gold producer in Russia and Kazakhstan

The company operates mines and development/exploration projects located in 5 major gold mining regions of Russia

In 2009, Polyus Gold production in Russia totaled 1.3 million ounces.  The company’s reserves are reported to be 74.1 million ounces
