DRAINAGE SYSTEMSRAINPLUS® AND THE CONVENTIONAL DRAINAGE SYSTEMSTECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL COMPARISON
DRAINAGE SYSTEMS RAINPLUS® AND CONVENTIONAL
ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
The systems used for roof drainage:
• conventional gravity* roof drainage system (air/water flow)
• siphonic roof drainage system (full bore flow)
* Also siphonic systems are based on gravity effect but this designation is used for an easy distinction.

ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
Roof drainage systems are made of:
Roof outlets
Pipes and fittings
Clips and accessories

ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
Conventional roof drainage systems are made of:
• standard outlets,
• one stack for each outlet,
• stacks’ height equal to the building height,
• buried collectors (also inside the building).

ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
Conventional roof drainage systems are made of:
• Collector pipes with slope,
• 33% stack filling ratio and max. 70% collectors filling ratio.

ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
Siphonic roof drainage systems are made of :
• roof outlet with anti-vortex plate,
• horizontal collecting pipe installed on ceiling (not buried),
• single downpipe for each circuit and on the perimeter of the building,

ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
Siphonic roof drainage systems are made of :
• no slope for collectors,
• full bore flow.

ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
• The outlet of a conventional roof drainage system has no particular insert.
• Pipelines work with water and air inside.
• The inlet flow has a vortex that carries air inside.
DRAINAGE SYSTEMS RAINPLUS® AND CONVENTIONAL
ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
• In siphonic system the outlet has special devices.
• The pipelines work in a full bore stage.
• The outlet has an anti-vortex plate that avoid air inside.

Negative pressure
Negative pressure
• The engine of siphonic system is the total height of the building.
• The height of the building generates negative pressure inside the pipe (vacuum) when the water flows.
• Negative pressure siphons the water from the roof through the outlets.

SIPHONIC SYSTEM ADVANTAGES
Economical• Minimization of the number
of roof outlets,• minimization of the pipes size,• minimization of the number
of downpipes.
Space saving• Horizontal pipes without
any slope,• the downpipes can be installed
on the building perimeter.
DRAINAGE SYSTEMS RAINPLUS® AND CONVENTIONAL
SIPHONIC SYSTEM ADVANTAGES
High performance• Pipes are sized to work
completely full of water,• high velocity of the water,• the system is self cleaning.
Ecocompatible• This system makes the
collection of rain water easy and economical.
DRAINAGE SYSTEMS RAINPLUS® AND CONVENTIONAL
SIPHONIC SYSTEM ADVANTAGES
Time and labour saving• Excavation works are
minimalized thus makingthe installations quicker.
Great design flexibility• Down pipes can be installed
anywhere in the building,• the drainage lines are not
buried in the ground.

OTHER DATA
Costs• Pipes and fittings affect 40-50% of the total costs.• Outlets affect 15% of the total costs.• The remaining costs are due to the clamps and fixing accessories.
Quantities and dimensions• 85% of pipes are made of De 90, 110 e 125 (for systems made of
outlets having a design flow rate of 15 l/s).• 20m of pipe for each outlet.
