5. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

Page 2: 5. How did you attract/address your audience

In my opinion from making the fi lm opening, what I think attracted the target audience to like the fi lm is what they know what to expect from a romantic comedy and it is clear from the beginning that it is going to have all the typical conventions.

STEREOTYPICAL:

It will also include the narrative that the audience is so used to seeing, which is the ‘boy meets girl’ story line. Our narrative is focusing on how the geek boy likes a popular girl and he knows about her bad grades so her tries to help/teach her, he is just using him at the beginning but then they fall in love.

We attracted them because our target audience will be a similar age to the main character at aged 17. They will be able to relate to her, by possibly having a similar fashion style at the age and if they are the same gender.

It is also relatable by the fact that she is at school and having to study because everyone who watches the fi lm in the target audience will be in the same situation.

RELATABLE:

The bedroom setting will be something they are used to seeing; if their own bedrooms aren’t similar their friend’s bedrooms will be because it is a typically teenage girly room.

We engaged the audience by the colours we used, for the on screen titles we used a bright pink colour and they are in a stylish/girly hand written font.

The audience might be able to relate to this type of writing, or it will please them because it connotes the romantic comedy genre.

TYPOGRAPHY:

The fact that the titles stop right before the girl gets to the party and as her bedroom door is slammed shut leaves the audience feeling a little bit confused and intrigued.

They will also be engaged to keep watching because of any enigmas that they might be left with form the ending.

These could revolve around the party: will anything dramatic happen at the party? Will she meet ‘the one’? Is she dressing up so much to try and impress someone? Will she remain friends with the girl who invited her or will there be some kind of

conflict?
