A state of equilibrium at the outset.

The equilibrium is that Cole should be a normal child.

A disruption of the equilibrium by some action.

The disruption of the equilibrium is that he’s not a normal child as he can see dead people.

A recognition that there has been a disruption.

The recognition of the disruption is that, Bruce Willis recognizes that the child is not normal and tries to help him and also the children realize that he’s not normal and call him a freak.

An attempt to repair the disruption.

The attempt to repair the disruption is that Bruce Willis tells Cole to try and listen to the dead people he sees so he can help them, and they will no longer frighten him.

A reinstatement of the equilibrium.

The reinstatement of the equilibrium is that Cole tells his mum that he can see the dead people.
