New Directions:What We Needed to Do

• Screencast Requirements:– Sharable with [editable by] Sakai Partners

• What Technologies?– What is accessible by many?– What will allow us to update easily?

– Generic Sakai content only– Able to be played on portable devices– Exchangeable audio and other assets– Accessible

7

How We Responded• Experimentation with PowerPoint

Using Sakai-only Content– http://www.indiana.edu/~edclass/Sakai08/WeightedCategory_PercentCSR.ppt– http://www.indiana.edu/~edclass/Sakai08/Regular_PowerPoint_Messages_Tool_POC.ppt– http://www.indiana.edu/~edclass/Sakai08/csrMergeSiteContent_1_.ppt

– Pros:• Most have PowerPoint• Screen snaps in grayscale can reflect most Sakai environments• Master pages enable swappable content• Imported audio is exchangeable• Accessible• Wondershare or other conversion software converts to MP4

– Cons:• Timeline is difficult to manage• No savings in development time compared to Captivate

How We Responded• Experimentation with Captivate

Using Sakai-only Content– http://www.indiana.edu/~ittrain/oncourse/feature_demos/

qs_gdbook_change_grade_type.htm

– Demonstration of customizing skins– Pros:

• More focused, Sakai-only content mostly reflects various Sakai environments

• Library objects enable swappable content• Imported audio is also exchangeable• ByteScout SWF to Video conversion software converts to

mp4

– Cons:• Captivate does not record in Grayscale• Editing requires investment in Captivate• SWFs are not accessible, necessitating scripts. Example:
