SUMMER INTERNATIONAL
LAW INSTITUTES
Why not consider adding a law-related
experience to your resume’ that stands out
to employers and may open opportunities in
an increasingly global world of law practice.
Nairobi
Nairobi summer program is an extraordinary academic and
cultural experience that will change the way you view the world.
Since 1988 Widener has operated this summer
program in partnership with the University of
Nairobi. Kenya is one of the most beautiful
and interesting places in the world. It is justly
famous for its extraordinary national parks
teeming with wildlife, beautiful beaches on the
Indian Ocean, and excellent hiking in the
mountains including Mt. Kilimanjaro.
You will find that Kenyans are as generous and friendly as any group of people in the
world. Several members of our Institute’s Kenyan faculty have helped lead the fight for com-
prehensive constitutional reform and are members of the Constitu-
tional Review Commission.
On weekends students will be able to explore the cultural diver-
sity of Kenya while traveling in groups to game parks, visiting the
unspoiled and less crowded beaches on the Indian Ocean for snorkel-
ing and scuba diving, or a relaxing hike in the mountains. There is
far more to see and do than one person could possibly enjoy in a sum-
mer. You may be interested in visiting or volunteering with Water is
Life, Kenya, an NGO devoted to provide clean water to remote vil-
lages to reduce disease and improve the prospects for rural women.
The curriculum at the Nairobi International Law Institute is augmented by lectures on
Kenyan history. Kenya, like many developing countries has been going through growth pains
on the road to true democracy. This unique program immerses students in international le-
gal problems. The seven students who participated last summer had a very rewarding cul-
tural and academic experience and will be happy to discuss their experience with you.

Widener University School of Law summer institutes in Europe provide law stu-
dents with the unique opportunity to build their own "Summer International Law
Experience".
Widener's programs in Lausanne, Switzerland and Venice, Italy have been de-
signed with the student in mind. Each program consists of two 2-week segments
and students have numerous options when enrolling in courses.
Students can select from the following options:
■ Students with a limited amount of time in the summer can select any one of
the two week segments and spend 2 weeks in Europe studying international law
and then return home for the rest of the summer.
■ Students with more time can select one two-week segment in Lausanne and
one 2-week segment in Venice or take 2 segments in one location for a month
long summer experience.
■ Students with time for adventure can select the first two-week segment in
Lausanne, spend the next 2 weeks traveling through Europe, and then select the
last 2-week segment in Venice for a complete summer European experience.
The myriad of options available in our European Summer Law programs
mean that almost every student can build a personal program to meet educa-
tional, financial, and personal goals.

Lausanne
As a student in our Lausanne Summer Law Institute, you
have the opportunity to study abroad in Lausanne, Switzerland,
a breathtakingly beautiful city near Geneva, which is known
throughout the world as an international center for law, policy,
and diplomacy. Widener students have been traveling to Swit-
zerland for a unique and exciting summer program since 1991.
Lausanne is a beautiful location and the University of
Lausanne, our academic host, has a very user-friendly campus.
Our shorter course format continues to be very popular with our
students allowing them to choose among several options including (i) more travel time after
completing course work, (ii) taking a second set of courses in
our Venice program, and (iii) returning home earlier, for sum-
mer work or other activities.
Switzerland is bordered by France, Germany, Austria, It-
aly and t iny Liechtenstein.
Lausanne's central location places
most of the great cities and regions of
Europe within reach; Paris, Milan,
Florence, Venice, Brussels, Munich
and Innsbruck are easy weekend jour-
neys. Adventuresome students can
reach Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague, or Barcelona in a day (or
night) by train. Any of the 27 students who participated last summer will be happy to discuss
their experiences both culturally and academically with you.

Venice has been known as the "City of Water", "City of
Bridges", and "The City of Light". It is considered by many to
be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The only way
to get around Venice is to walk or take a
boat. Many Venetians have their own boats
but the visitor to Venice will have to rely
on water taxis (vaporettos) and the public
boats, which are used to move around the
canals of Venice and the lagoon. One of
the historic places to visit while in Venice
is the bell tower in St. Mark’s Square. The Bridge of Sighs received its
name in the 17th century, because the prisoners who passed through it on their way to the
prison cells on the other side would most likely see the beautiful sight
of the lagoon and freedom for the last time.
Widener's programs in Venice and Lausanne have been redesigned.
Each program consists of two 2-week segments and students have nu-
merous options when enrolling in courses.
Our shorter course format proved to be very popular with our stu-
dents allowing them to choose among several options including taking
courses in our Lausanne program first and then studying in Venice.
Dean Linda Ammons of Widener Law will teach Comparative Admin-
istrative Law during the first session. This is a fabulous opportunity for those interested in ad-
ministrative law. Widener’s European Summer Law programs mean that almost every student
can build a personal program to meet educational, financial, and personal goals. Last summer,
19 students participated in our Venice program. Will you join us this summer?
“You will have the

to Paris, Vienna, Prague,

capitals will contribute to
a memorable summer.”

Widener School of Law offers students an opportunity to study abroad during
the summer of 2012. Students may travel to
Lausanne, Nairobi, or Venice and earn credits
while enjoying an enriching academic experience
and the history and culture of a foreign country.
Summer is the perfect time to earn credits
while experiencing international cultures and
learning different perspectives of faculty and stu-
dents from foreign countries. With the globaliza-
tion of the world economy, an understanding of international business, trade,
and jurisdiction has become essential for the mod-
ern lawyer. Why not consider adding a law-related
experience to your resume’ that stands out to em-
ployers and may open opportunities in an increas-
ingly global world of law practice.
Each program is really different and each pro-
vides amazing opportunities not just to visit foreign
countries but to live there, to learn about different cultures, and to learn some-
thing about yourself.
All programs are organized to allow students to balance class work with time
to explore and learn about the country.
Some of you are already captivated by one of these
fascinating cities so why not add this learn-
ing experience to your knowledge base. Contact the
Coordinator of International Programs at 302-477-
