Community Science Project-River Legacy Science Center

Group Names: Meagan Kasson, Lori Marsalko, and Gabriela Sanchez Martinez

Location: River Legacy Science Center

Time and Date: 3:00pm on November 17, 2016

Know Want to Know LearnedThe center is child friendly. Would this be a good place to

take a class? The center is large enough to take an entire class, but they

would probably enjoy themselves more doing both inside and outside activities.

They have a garden in which children cultivate various plants.

What kind of activities does the center provide that are

interactive and influence learning?

The science center had several prop boxes and activities that

would be both fun and informative for my future

classroom. There is a beautiful pond near

the center. Is there any wildlife at the

center? If so, what kind? Is it native to Texas?

I was surprised to see that the science center had a variety of

wildlife, both living and nonliving, and all the animals

were native to Texas. I think this science center would be a great

place to build on prior knowledge and further learning.

Group Reflection:

Our group thinks that the River Legacy Science Center is an excellent place to bring a classroom or even a small group of children. We also got some great ideas for our future classroom. Something we liked about the science center is that the activities and information could easily be aligned with the TEKS in many different grades levels. We were not expecting to see any wildlife at the center, but we know that is something the students would enjoy! Another positive aspect about the science center is that it is near a beautiful, spacious park that will provide an opportunity for student to further explore what they have learned.
