How do we move from good to great when we know…

Entering Middle School this fall, we have:

14 students reading at 3rd grade level or

below

6 students are 2 grade levels behind in

math

Entering High School this fall, we have:

9 students reading at the 6th grade level or

lower

5 students reading at the 5th grade level or

lower

12 Students are 2 or more grade levels

behind in math

This does not include students on an IEP

So what do we do?

What do the following teachers have in common?

Jamie Escalante (Stand and Deliver, 1988)

Mr. Holland (Mr. Holland’s Opus, 1995)

Ron Clark (The Ron Clark Story, 2006)

Erin Gruwell(Freedom Writers, 2007)

Or other teachers in movies such as:

The Miracle Worker (1962)Dead Poets Society (1989)Dangerous Minds (1995)

Music of the Heart (1999) The Great Debaters (2007)

They built relationships with their students above and beyond the call of duty!

Students needs were evaluated and appropriate

teaching adjustments were made.

So we continue to build strong relationships

And…

We implement research proven strategies to improve student

achievement

Staff Development,Q-Comp and

the Administration have gotten together…

To bring research based training to you.

Research Validates:Formative Assessment is nearly twice as influential on student achievement as SES

(Reeves 2010)

Typical Effect Sizes of .4 - .7 (which is 20-27 percentile points)

(Black and Willam 1998)

Let’s Begin…

RIGHT NOW

We are asuperior school!

Improvement is difficult:Moving form 85% to 87% proficiency rate is tough.

If we always do what we have always done, we will continue to get what we have always gotten.

If we want to get to the next level…We need to implement research based

practices to improve our students achievement levels.

Staff Development is planning meaningful Professional

Development related to Formative Assessment and Instructional Strategies for the next three

years.

Administrators will be probing staff during the observation

process.

Q-Comp Leaders will be able to assist with discussions related

to Formative Assessment

Materials are available for book studies.

Take out your cell phone and get ready to text.
