Rotary & Corporate Social Responsibility

In 2012, the words Leadership and Responsibility take on completely different meanings.

In today's hectic economic climate, it is easy to lose sight of "doing the right thing" when faced with top and bottom

line pressures.

Too often, the urgency of success pulls business leaders away from the things that really matter: our member’s

sense of pride, and the community that we serve.

Motivation   Knowing that you matter. Remember to show continuing

appreciation.     Being part of a crusade. Knowing that your talent makes a

difference.     Living your dream. I am here because I can close my eyes

and I can see that what I do helps me to improve myself.     Most people spend their whole life searching for their dream. Most people spend their whole life searching for their dream.

Real Leadership goes beyond the organization and reaches into the community.

People intrinsically want to give back

As business leaders, it is important to acknowledge that our responsibility extends well beyond spreadsheets and conference calls.

Being called to lead means setting an example in many ways.   From giving money and volunteering hours   To corporate led programs   Nonprofit engagements around the world   We can give at many levels.

But how do we find a balance? How can we be responsible without “taking our eyes off the ball” at work?

We know we want to give back, but…   We are too busy/Not enough time   We are under too much pressure   Priorities don’t align   No budget/funding   We aren’t supported   We don’t know how and where to get involved   We have fear…

True Leaders Must Overcome

The Unknown Turning the unknown into adventure will give you permission to succeed.

Abandonment Humans are pack animals – it is natural to be afraid of being alone.

Failure Is it Failure or Defeat?  Defeat is when life crumbles around you, and you stay in it but do nothing to climb out. Get knocked down one hundred times – get back up one hundred and one!

Rejection What if they say no? What is the worst that could happen?

Success Some people are never actually taught the definition of Success – and how to handle it when it comes our way.

If not You? Then Who?   Close your eyes…

Imagine a world without the generosity of others: ○  In 2011, Americans gave almost $300B to charitable

organizations* (and that was what was big enough to claim!)

○  It is estimated that Americans actually give closer to $450B per year

○  Bill Gates is only worth $61B

Time is Money, Right?   1 Second = $1

  $1M = 11 Days   $1B = 95 Years   $1T = 31,688 Years

 $3T = 95,064Years

That, my friends, is the scope of what we do.

Sometimes, it’s a matter of encouragement over investment.

True Leaders Must Live By

Respect The result of people trusting you, and wanting you to share their journey with them.

Nothing better than sharing the same crusade. Nothing better than sharing the same crusade. Nothing better than sharing the same crusade.

Reputation Is not created during a relationship. It is created after.  It is the feeling that we leave people with after they are directly involved with us.

Community service builds perception and awareness.

Integrity The result of respect and reputation coming together to create the belief that I can trust who you are and can count on you to do what you say you will do.
