The European Automotive Congress was thought to be a common scientific event of the traditional bian-nual European Automotive Engineers Cooperation (EAEC) Congress (this year at its 14th edition) and theannual international Conference of the Society of Automotive Engineers of Romania (SIAR) ESFA.
The Congress was organized by the SIAR and the Automotive Engineering Department of the University
Politehnica of Bucharest in cooperation with EAEC under the patronage of Fdration Internationaledes Socits dIngnieurs de Techniques dAutomobile (FISITA).
The motto of the Congress (Academia, Industry and Government: together for automotive engineeringdevelopment) was an indication of the organizers belief that there is a need for meetings and discussionsabout the current and future challenges of the automotive world in order to find the best solutions. Inother words, we are convinced that the challenges of the future can only be overcome if these tripartitediscussions occur permanently.
The authors of the papers that will be presented at the Congress are experts from research, industry anduniversities coming from 14 countries among which nine from Europe. Their papers are covering thelatest issues such as: fuel economy and environment, automotive safety and comfort, automotive reliabil-ity and maintenance, new materials and technologies, traffic and road transport systems, advancedengineering methods and tools, advanced powertrains and hybrid and electric drives.
Therefore, we hope these papers will generate fruitful discussions about an exciting topic: the automo-tive engineering in the light of the future challenges.
Automotive Engineering Department was founded in 1959 within the PolytechnicInstitute of Bucharest. During the 50 years of activity, its teaching staff provided highereducation of more then 5000 engineers and contributed to the continuing education foran important number of postgraduates.www.autovehicule-rutiere.ro
EAEC-ESFA 2015 is organised under FISITA Patronage.FISITA is the international federation linking the national automotive engineering societiesin 38 countries. FISITA was founded in 1948 as a neutral forum for the exchange of techni-cal knowledge on every aspect of vehicle design, development and manufacture. FISITA isa non-profit organisation committed to helping create efficient, affordable, safe andsustainable automotive transportation.www.fisita.com
SIAR is the professional organization of the Romanian automotive engineers, a corporatebody, an independent and non-profit association, active member of FISITA (FederationInternationale des Societes dIngenieurs des Techniques de lAutomobile) and EAEC(European Automobile Engineers Cooperation).

EAEC was founded in 1985 and has 24 Member Societies.EAEC (European Automobile Engineers Cooperation) is a cooperation of the European
automotive engineers societies, responding to the need for more specific cooperationamong the European societies within the core of FISITA.www.eaec.net

hold in automn of 1981.The successful of this scientific event is revealed by its magnitude, number of par-ticipants, number and quality of papers presented and published in proceedingsvolumes, as well as by the actuality of the topics of its sections. In this respect, ithas to be noticed that, if the topics of early editions were focused on the threedirections mentioned in the title event, i.e. fuel economy, safety and reliability ofmotor vehicles, starting with the opening to an international participation, thetopics were diversified, in accordance with the spectacular developments in auto-
motive engineering and new concerns of engineers and researchers involved inthe field: working processes in vehicle systems and their modeling, vehicle andenvironment, hybrid and electric drives, new materials and technologies, trafficand road transport systems, fuel economy and environment, automotive safetyand comfort, automotive reliability and maintenance.
The Department of Automotive Engineering from the University POLITEH-NICA of Bucharest organizes since over 30 years the Conference titled "Fuel
Economy, Safety and Reliability of Motor Vehicles - ESFA". The first edition was
