WEEK 10 , TERM 3, 2019
Principal’s Message
School Construction Zone – Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding whilst we had
upgrades made to the support unit area of our school. The builders had a series of set-backs that had to address work health and safety needs. I am happy to let you know that Block D and Block L (Support Unit) is now finish and the security fencing has been removed. The Sensory Room is complete, we are now waiting for the resources to be delivered and installed.
Staffing – Congratulations and Thank you) Ms Isabelle Lewis will leave us today from the support unit.
We thank Ms Lewis for her time and dedication to the students. Mrs Lloyd will return to the IO class. Through a successful expressions of interest process, we welcome Ms. Doss who will be the Relieving Assistant Principal for term 4 and teach the students in class 3/6S.
Lost Property – We have an overwhelming amount of school jumpers and jackets in our lost property
with no names, if your child has misplaced any items including drink bottles or lunch boxes please come
up to the school and have a look through the lost property box which is in the hall (near piano, also outside stage 3 classrooms)
NSW Government Auditor – All school finances, and procedures to ensure public funds are used in
accordance with the Department of Education guidelines have been checked and verified. I am pleased to say, KPS received a welcome report.
Kindergarten Enrolments (2020) – We are now taking enrolments for kindergarten 2020.Children
turning 5 before 31 July 2020 are eligible to start in kindergarten in 2020. Visit our friendly and professional office or contact the school on 95214514 for more information. Our Kindergarten Transition to school program is due to begin 6 November 2019.

Gardening 2019 – Our garden is getting a touch up. Students are working very hard looking after, and
sometimes taking a nibble on: strawberries, carrots, lettuce and edible rosemary. It had been a high quality learning experience for many students to see the outcome of their planting program, and monitor the growth stages of plants and processes required to generate a healthy garden. Some actions included watering and turning the compost. Have you thought about composting your food scraps turning them into soil?
P & C News (a) At the last meeting a significant strategy received 100% support. The expansion of the
Before and After Care program for 2020. KPS will now work with the provider and submit an application to the Department of Education for a variation to the current agreement.
(b) The P & C requires urgent support (volunteers) to run the canteen. Today only 1x person was available. It should be noted, that without volunteer support the canteen is NOT sustainable. The income from the program in 2019 made a significant contribution to purchase NEW sportswear in our rebranded school colours for the PSSA students. Please contact the school (95214514)with your contact details if you are able to volunteer your time.
(©) On Sunday 20th October the P & C will be running the annual school FETE. To date we
have a small group, approximately 10 volunteers who have an enormous amount for work to achieve. Please support the P & C as they work very hard to help ALL students at KPS. Contact the school and submit your support.

EARLY STAGE 1 REPORT
We had such fun on Science day! We mixed magic potions and learnt about how different chemicals react
when they are put together. We programed the “We Do” Lego robots to move, make noise and change
colours and had lots of thoughtful questions for Dr Hester about what it is like out in space. We loved visiting
the Science exhibits in the hall and watching clips of the experiments that students had done at home. It was
an exciting day of experimenting, questioning and exploring.

STAGE 1 REPORT
Term 3 is already coming to a close, can you believe it?
Stage 1 has had a busy term in many aspects - Our performing arts, science and technology, sporting and our
theme focus units. We have been finishing our theme unit of ‘Celebrating Differences’, a celebration of all the
things that make multicultural Australia what it is today, and consolidating our knowledge of the four countries
we explored in detail (India, China, Nigeria and Italy). Students were immersed in different traditions, games,
artworks, music and dances within each culture.

Our Peer Support began in Week 9 and our Stage 1 students are looking forward to
learning about showing optimism and positivity alongside their peers across each
stage. Students met in small groups and engaged in different activities to introduce
themselves to others. What did you learn about optimism, Stage 1?
We have been consolidating our knowledge of
different maths concepts across a couple of
different areas. Stage 1 students have been working
hard to use different ways of working out. Have a look at
some of our array work that we’ve been exploring in class!
From all of the Stage 1 teachers, we hope everyone has a safe and fun break while on holidays, we eagerly
await the adventures that Term 4 will bring!
Mrs Harris, Mrs Newman, Ms Rauicava and Miss Wallin
STAGE 2 REPORT
This is the last newsletter for the term and what an extremely busy term had by all. The students have
had many opportunities to shine and show off their many skills, talents and creativity, through the
variety of programs on offer with in KPS! The last week we have been completing assessments on all
our learning as well as ‘wrapping up’ our theme for the term. Last week our whole school began our
Peer Support lessons with our Stage 3 leaders, we are looking forward to continuing these in to next
term. The students enjoyed Beanie Day last week raising much needed funds for brain cancer
research. We have also began our new sports with Fit Futures and the students are enjoying learning
new skills.

STAGE 3 REPORT A very busy term in is now coming to end, and for Year 6, they now head into their final term of primary
school! Wow!
In theme this term Stage 3 have been learning about some of the big issues affecting some of the children in
our world, such as poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition. Over the last week students have been working on a
spoken word poem surrounding these big issues and will be presenting it to their class throughout this week as
a “slam poetry” performance. The students have been working hard on these pieces and we’re looking
forward to some brilliant poetic performances!
The permission notes and $90 deposit for our end of year camp to Berry Sport and Recreation were due last
Friday, however, we are still waiting on quite a few to be returned. Please return ASAP, a delay in this can
impact camp organization, as NSW Sport and Recreation require information from us regarding permission
and final numbers as soon as possible.
Thanks everyone for your continued support in another busy school term. Have a nice break and see
everybody next term.
Kind Regards,
Stage 3 Teachers

SUPPORT UNIT REPORT
As term 3 comes to a close, we reflect on the last ten weeks! The Teddy Bears Picnic Day was a lovely
excursion for our kindergarten and year one students. We have also been hard at work in our classroom and
our students have enjoyed our outdoor activities.
Thank you to all our students and parents for supporting us in our temporary classroom! It’s not long now and
we will be transitioning into our brand new Support Unit classrooms which include a fantastic new sensory
room!
Have a wonderful break and see you in term 4! (Support Unit Staff)
Zone Public Speaking Competition It was a wet and windy day, but our school public speaking winners shone brightly at the Network Public
Speaking final at Sylvania Heights Public School on Wednesday 18th September. Congratulations to Mya M,
Mia C, Mikey D and Sofia T on the wonderful job you did with your prepared and impromptu speeches. Thank
you for representing our school so well, we are very proud of you!
Thank you to the families for taking time out of your day to bring your children to the venue and to all families
who attended the school finals at KPS in August. We appreciate your support of public speaking - a very
useful, lifelong skill to have.
