Early Birds Concern Whilst I appreciate parents have very important reasons relevant to individual families to send children to school before the official starting period.

Stage Reports

Early Stage 1 Report

Early Stage One Report

We have been working on writing independently in kindergarten using strategies to work out the

sound we hear in each word. At this early stage, writing phonetically is much more important than

perfect spelling and we are excited about how well the children are responding to L3. We are

learning about how important vowels are (a, e, i, o, u) because they are in (nearly) every word. The

letter y likes to pretend it is a vowel too sometimes.

In maths we have been getting very good with friends of 10 and 20. Help your child practice

combinations to 10 and 20 at home with an egg box and small objects.

Stage 1 Report Stage 1 Report Stage 1 classes have been doing some fantastic Science experiments this term, related to our Forces unit! We have experimented with floating and sinking, observing properties that make objects float or sink. We have looked at push and pull forces on toys and on objects around the home. We discovered that air is all around us! We have made paper helicopters and tested what happens to their drop speed with varying sizes and wing lengths.

We have designed and adapted boats out of a variety of materials and tested them to see how much mass they could carry.

We have made marshmallow shooters and measured how the distance travelled changed, due to changes in force. We have used skills of prediction, design, observation and fair testing. Stage 1 have become Mini Scientists!

We look forward to learning more on our Powerhouse Museum Excursion, on Thursday 22nd June!

Stage 2 Report This week Stage Two went on a virtual excursion following the voyage of Captain James Cook around the world as part of our First Contact unit of work. The students had the opportunity to learn about the conditions on board the Endeavour and the problems which arose when different cultures met for the first time.

Stage Two is continuing to learn about the plight of the dancing bear and developing their persuasive writing skills during English lessons. Students have the opportunity to discuss ethics and what responsibilities do they have to stand up against the unethical treatment of animals in our world through the study of literature such as the Deliverance of Dancing Bears.

Stage 3 Report Week 8 already! How time flies… Over this week and next week Stage Three will be attending the Life Education Van and learning more on drug education to go along with our PDHPE unit that we have looked at this term. Expression of Interest notes for Berry Sport and Recreation camp went out this week. It is importan that these notes come back ASAP. While the camp still seems a long way off, it will certainly creep up on us very quickly. The EOI’s will allow us to confirm numbers and pricing so that we can begin collecting payment instalments as soon as possible. The athletics carnival is on in week 10, notes went out this week. Please return permission and payment next week, week 9, and ensure that you also sign the Frosbury Flop section on the permission note. If any parents are able to assist with duties throughout the day can they please inform Mr McFadden. Kind Regards, Stage 3 Teachers
