WEEK 9, TERM 4, 2018
Principal’s Message It is hard to believe we are on the final stretch of schooling for 2018. As usual around this time of the year there are many activities, we are all trying to accommodate, to be ready for the festivities that are yet to come.. Firstly, a huge thanks to the Kirrawee Public School community for an outstanding attendance at our Christmas Carols Concert and Annual School Presentation assembly. Thank You to all the parents and friends who have worked alongside the P & C as the community organisation that provides significant resources for the students to enhance their learning programs. Thank You to the learning community for supporting me on so many fronts of school governance. Kirrawee Public School is well on the way to enhance effective learning. Thank You to all the staff at Kirrawee Public School. We appreciate your professionalism and compassion for the students under your care. Thank You to my executive team- your leadership, support and commitment to our school plan. Thank You to our Volunteers. They include library helpers, scripture teachers, fundraising teams, committee teams, classroom helpers, uniform shop and canteen volunteers and of course our reading tutors. Our school is enriched by your support which does not go unnoticed and hugely appreciated by our staff and students. Special Thanks An enormous amount of FREE work- outside the scope of his regular statement of duties is also done in the maintenance sector. My personal thanks to Mr Olthof for his hard work.

Congratulations to our School Captains for 2019 HARRISON MELBOURNE and RHEA ELLIOTT Congratulations to our School Prefects for 2019 MARIAM Thabet, WILL Field, TYLAH Thorn, WILLIAM Riashi Staffing for 2019 Due to the sensitivity around our student numbers, I am reluctant to allocate staff to classes. Restructuring classes again in2019, would be very unsettling for the students. If our numbers increase by less than five students in ES1 or Stage 1, then we will have an additional class. This is based on all our current students returning to Kirrawee PS. If we continue with the current formula then all staff will return. It is my hope that all classes will be formed by the end on week Two, Term One in 2019. Mrs Karen Beckman will be on leave up to Term Three, week Two. Mrs Jennifer Ivison will be on leave for the duration of 2019. All replacements will be officially presented in 2019. Mrs Donna Rauicava will be on leave for Term One 2019. Learning Packs/Resources 2019 These are an integral part of effective classroom programs and support children’s learning and development. This includes all stationery, workbooks, paper, IT resources, Library bags, Fit Futures (replaces Got Game)- gymnastics, dance, softball/cricket, soccer/netball, T-Ball, athletics, on-line programs, swimming carnival, picnic day (T4), excursion up to $20 in value. The pack includes 4x terms of the Fit Futures program. The school encourages this one stop shop. All writing and reading resources are replaced if damaged or lost (within reason) at no additional cost. Learning Pack system does not require parents to engage the voluntary contributions programs as well. Instalments will be accepted- this can be addressed at the front office. Options are: Cash, Cheque or Credit Card. Kindergarten - $300 Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) - $315 Stage 1 - $315 Stage 2 - $320 Stage 3 - $330 Support Unit - $300 Selwyn Williams (Principal)

STAGE 1 REPORT
Going into Week 8 of Term 4, Stage 1 have been working hard to polish their performances for end of
year celebrations. Our CAPA night performances were a big hit with our junior choir and junior
dance groups showing their works from the year.
Our ‘Paddock to Plate’ theme work unit saw Stage 1 using some home style cooking methods to
prepare ice cream and butter (pictured right) in the classroom. Students discussed the process and
were able to view the way ingredients can be used to make some of our well known food products.
As we begin to wind down after a FANTASTIC year with our stage 1 students, we would like to extend
a big thank you for the hard work each student has put in. We wish all students a happy and safe
holiday and are excited for what 2019 brings! Thank you,
Mrs Parker, Mrs Newman, Mrs Oostdam and Miss Wallin
Stage 1 teachers
STAGE 2 REPORT The year is nearly over and that means its nearly time for the Christmas concert! Stage two have
been practising and are ready to wow the crowd on Thursday night! We look forward to seeing you
all there!
This week Mrs Oostdam has been coming in for Science and technology. Students have been
challenged to build the tallest tower which can support a golf ball at the top. It was a challenging
tasks and students had to use their critical and creative thinking skills to get the best outcome.

We would like to thank everyone for all your help throughout the year and we are looking forward to
seeing you all next year!
Mr Morgan and Mrs Whicker
STAGE 3 REPORT As the end of the term approaches, all of our extra curricular activities are really starting to gear up, starting
with our Christmas Concert this Thursday, 6th December. Stage 3 have been practising their carols and it would
be great to see as many faces possible there on Thursday evening. Gates open at 5:45pm.
Next week we have Presentation Day and the Year 6 Farewell on Wednesday 12th December. There are still
some RSVPs yet to be returned for the Farewell, could these please be returned as soon as possible. Students
are to be arriving at the Farewell from 6:15pm, and parents are invited back into the venue for the graduation
presentations and final dance at 9pm.
Final Narrabeen payments were due last Friday, week 7, however a number of outstanding balances still
remain. Final payments need to be made as soon as possibly otherwise students will be at risk of missing the
camp.
Students have thoroughly enjoyed our theme unit on the Solar System this semester and have gained a lot of
valuable knowledge. We would love to be able to show students a couple of very educational
documentaries to supplement this program, however we need video permission notes to be returned,
otherwise this will not be possible. Notes regarding this were sent home in week 6. Also remember that
student’s Solar System models are due to be brought in over Monday and Tuesday of week 9. We would like
to be able to set these up in the spare room next to 5/6D as a temporary Solar System Museum for the other
students to come and explore throughout the remainder of week 9.
Kind Regards,
Jack McFadden and David Mahoney

Waste Warrior Enrichment Group Last week the students involved in the Waste Warrior Enrichment Group participated in a waste audit of the
school. Julie Gallan from the RNP Environmental Education Centre came and led the audit. We collected the
school’s rubbish over 2 days and put this aside for sorting. We started with 23 bags which were each weighed
and totalled 39 kgs. We then sorted the waste into 4 categories;
- Avoid/ landfill
- Recycling
- Compost/ Food waste
- Paper/ cardboard.
After we had sorted our waste into the 4 categories, we reduced our landfill amount from 39kgs to a tiny
3.6kgs! We were very impressed with our results and have big plans to implement different coloured bins in the
playground next year to reduce our waste daily.
We have also written to the Sutherland Shire Council to suggest some ideas for change at a local level. We
are keen to try our best to reduce the waste going to landfill and make positive changes for the environment.
