Tactile feedback 1/2
• Tactile feedback is a method which gives feedback to the user when the UI has received a touch down event.
• Tactile feedback includes tactile vibra feedback and tactile audio feedback, which can be on or off regardless of each other. User has the possibility to switch these settings on/off from Profiles.
• Tactile feedback is given immediately when the user touches a predefined UI component.
• Tactile feedback (audio and/or vibra) is disabled when a call is coming in and during an active call. Other situations may be designed by applications.

Touch UI home screen
• Home screen is a UI concept that offers users an easy way to access preferred customer services, applications and personal information directly from the phone’s standby mode.
• There are three different home screen themes in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic: Contacts bar, Shortcut and Basic.
• The Control pane area displays the shortcut buttons for the Dialler and Contacts applications. Single tapping on the button opens the application. The Dialler and Contacts icons are shown in all the home screen themes.
• Home screen shortcuts:• tapping the clock activates clock settings: alarms and world clock as well
as date and time settings
• tapping the date opens the menu of calendar and profiles
• tapping the right upper corner of the home screen activates the clock menu and Connectivity settings.

Contacts bar
• Contacts bar is a default home screen. It is not customisable.
• You can select four favourite people with photos into the Contacts bar.
• The Contacts bar is displayed when you have added a contact into the Contacts bar.
• You can start the set-up by tapping the Add contact to Home Screen icon on the screen and follow the instructions on the screen.
• The Contacts bar home screen has the following details:• Contacts field for image(s) of contacts

• Media bar provides an easy way to launch and switch between the selected media applications:

• Media bar is launched on the screen by tapping the media bar icon above the display (next to XpressMusic logo on the right upper corner).
• Media bar disappears by pressing the icon again. In addition, it closes automatically after 15 seconds if the user does not click on the screen within the boundaries of the media bar.

• Virtual ITU-T keypad for touch variants • Virtual ITU-T (alphanumeric) keypad is displayed on
the screen and has been optimised for finger usage.
• ITU-T keypad is the traditional mobile phone keypad with 12 basic keys numeric keys 0 - 9, the Star (*) key and the Hash (#) key.
• Virtual ITU-T works both in both portrait and landscape mode.

• Handwriting recognition (HWR)• HWR provides a convenient input method for stylus-
enabled touch variants. By using HWR, the user is able to write letters, numbers and punctuation marks using a natural way of handwriting with the stylus.
• HWR supports character by character recognition.
• By means of the HWR training feature, the user is able to teach the handwriting recognition engine his/her own way of writing the characters.
• Handwriting recognition works in both portrait and landscape mode and is optimised for stylus use.

• Virtual QWERTY keyboard (VKB)• VKB keyboard is displayed on the screen. The
user is able to enter letters, numbers, symbols or punctuation marks by tapping the on-screen VKB.
• Virtual QWERTY keyboard works in both portrait and landscape modes. Portrait mode (Mini QWERTY keyboard) is optimised for stylus and landscape mode (Fullscreen QWERTY keyboard) is optimised for both stylus and finger use.
• The Fullscreen QWERTY has the same functions as the Mini QWERTY but it uses the whole display area.

• One tap• To open an application or other element on the touch screen, you normally tap it
once with your finger or the stylus.
• One tap is always used in the home screen status pane, dialler, phonebook, contacts bar, media bar and with the icon grid view.

• Double-tap• Double-tapping is needed, for example, to open list items in an application. Note that
in the list view, the first item is already highlighted as default so only one tap is needed to open it.
• To open files in a file list, for example a picture in Gallery, user also needs to tap them twice.

Dialler
• Using the on-screen Dialler the user can create phone calls manually by typing in the numbers.
• Dialler can also be used to send call concerned supplementary service requests to the network.
• Dialer is also used for non-call related actions, such as fetching information from the device itself (IMEI number, software version, inserting a PIN code).

Touch UI gestures
• Drag – slide your finger or the stylus on the screen when, for example, when browsing a web a page
• Swipe - slide your finger quickly on the screen. For example, to view the next or previous image in the Image viewer, swipe the image left or right.
• Scroll - to scroll up or down in a list that has a scroll bar, drag the slider of the scroll bar up or down. Scrolling speed increases when the finger is dragged further down the display, even outside the Main Pane. Speed decreases when finger is dragged closer to the focus.
• Zoom - zooming is done by tapping the screen, which brings up the controls (toolbar + zoom slider).

Tips and tricks 1/3
• User can remove the back cover by strongly lifting it up from the bottom end of the device.
• User can insert the SIM card into the SIM card slot by pushing it in with the contact area on the card facing upwards and the beveled edge facing toward the device.
• User can insert the memory card into the memory card slot by pushing it in with the contact area facing upwards. You can hear a click when the card locks into place.
• You can change and customise, for example, the ringing tones and message alert tones from the Profiles menu (Menu > Settings > Personal > Profiles).
• Shortcuts for clock, profiles, calendar and connectivity can be found from the home screen status (pane) area.

• By tapping the clock on the home screen, user can access the clock.
• By tapping the profile name or date on the home screen status area, user can access profiles and calendar.
• By tapping the empty area on the status area, user gets a status pop-up window where user can access connectivity settings, clock and has detailed information about possible indicators, for example a shortcut to unread messages or Bluetooth.
• By long pressing icons on the home screen (for example a profile name, clock), a menu or toolbar hint text appears.

• Menu is accessed by pressing the menu key at the bottom of the device.
• To switch between open applications, press and hold the menu key.
• Accelerometer for UI rotation can be set from Menu -> Settings - Phone -> Sensor settings
• To access applications such as the music player or browser at any time, tap the Media key to open the media bar, and select the application.
• To change the input method, the user can press the QWERTY icon and the input method list appears.
• Input is started by pressing the field where the input is meant to be written.
