Four Stages of Social Responsibility

• Stage 1: Owners and Management

• Stage 2: Employees

• Stage 3: Constituents in the Specific Environment

• Stage 4: Broader Society

Making Progress in Stage 1

At Stage 3&4• Mass Media: Audiences = Customers

• Except for the Associates, TVB has a direct influence on the society

• News always telling truth

• Providing many Public-service advertisements

• Content of entertainment appealing to positive things

However… always blamed by employees

Big Events• 11, Nov, 2008 TVB laid off 212

employees, despite the profit of over 500 billion HKD in the first half year.

• 18, Nov, 2009 Employees demonstrated outside TVB’s company requiring higher salary.

Gloomy Dawn• As reported on 1, Jan, 2011, TVB was

sentenced to pay back the money to the 3 employees it owed.

• Later on, during the Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk, some top level people in TVB indicated, although not clearly, that salary would be raised in response to the inflation.

Suggestions• Keep the positive influence on the

public

• Care more about empolyees
