RVA Ol Pejeta CampSituated in a corner of the 110,000 acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy, 19km from Nanyuki in the shadow of Mt Kenya, lies the RVA Ol Pejeta Camp. Complete with a large lounge, mess tent and outdoor sitting area, the camp can accommodate any size of group in comfort and privacy in our traditional safari tents, nestled in a natural bush setting.

The camp boasts a custom built mountain bike skills course, climbing tower and high ropes course. Here you can enhance your skills before taking on the large crags and mountain bike trails nearby. The wildlife is spectacular, on a good day you can view black rhino, elephant, lion, impala, warthog, bushbuck, and giraffe from the comfort of our lounge tent.

As well as the onsite adventure activities our community projects are a short walk away, from working in schools to installing a bio-gas plant in the village. RVA Ol Pejeta camp is a great base to explore the rest of Laikipia and climb stunning Mt. Kenya.

Ol Pejeta ConservancyThe Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a not-for-profit, wildlife conservancy and cattle ranch situated in Kenya’s Laikipia County. It’s vast 110,000 acres make up East Africa’s largest Black Rhino Sanctuary, home to 4 of the world’s 7 remaining Northern White Rhino, and is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees. Ol Pejeta’s mammal species list is the envy of most parks in Kenya as it is one of the the country’s most densely populated wildlife areas.

Management of wildlife in a closed ecosystem such as Ol Pejeta is of paramount importance. Continuous research and monitoring of wildlife and habitats informs management and ensures long-term conservation of critically endangered wildlife in the conservancy. You will never run out of things to do on Ol Pejeta including getting involved in wildlife monitoring, assisting in the rhino and chimpanzee sanctuaries, community projects and cattle ranching.

This vast Wildlife Conservancy is our home. We cycle, raft, climb and safari across it on a daily basis and so we continually encourage school groups to get involved with Ol Pejeta’s conservation efforts and make their contribution. This can be a financial contribution or hands-on assistance to the rangers and keepers. More on this in the Community & Wildlife page. Go to www.olpejetaconservancy.org for more information.

Welcome to beautiful Kenya! It is in the heart of this spectacular country that Rift Valley Adventures has chosen to lay down its roots. And who can blame us - Kenya is the jewel in Africa’s crown. It is one of the most exciting and naturally blessed destinations on Earth: with equatorial glaciers and savannahs packed full of wildlife all within sight of each other. A trip to Kenya with Rift Valley Adventures takes you to the top of Mt Kenya, a World Heritage site, across the plains cycling with giraffe, elephant and rhino and out into the Indian Ocean to surf and snorkel in the warm tropical waters.

Personal development is rarely more exciting and stimulating than on one of our specially designed expeditions. Cycling, kayaking, climbing or trekking this magestic stretch of Africa, participants gain a massive sense of achievement from Rift Valley Adventures’ expertly organised experiential programmes.

Concepts such as trust, responsibility, goal setting, teamwork and leadership – highly prized but rarely taught effectively in the classroom – blaze to life in the East African bush. Nobody comes back unchanged – and that’s exactly what we want!

Mountain EXPEDitionS...

At 5,199 metres, Mt. Kenya’s summit is blanketed by glaciers and snow with spectacular moorland seperating the rugged peaks from the thickly forested lower slopes. A five day hike will reach Pt. Lenana, just under 5,000 metres.

There are popular trails, but as with all RVA’s trips we take you off the beaten track. Local knowledge and years of experience have allowed us to map our own routes well away from other walkers.

Mt KenyaMount Meru (4,566 m) is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and a much underrated mountain climb. It is a horseshoe-shaped volcanic crater with a spectacular narrow ridge and superb all round views.

The cliffs of the inner walls below the summit are over 1,500 m high, and inside the caldera is a subsidiary peak called the Ash Cone (3,670 m) that last erupted only 100 years ago.

An ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro is not something that can simply be ticked off in the guide book. But with careful planning allowing sufficient acclimatisation time and mentally preparing yourself for the expedition you will have a PEAK experience.

Spreading over 7 days the journey will represent the hardest, and most rewarding challenge in your life to date.

Mt Meru

Mt Kilimanjaro RwenzorisThe Rwenzori mountains lie on the border between Uganda and The Democratic Republic of Congo and are host to some of Africa’s most pristine wilderness areas. These spectacular mountains were formed 3 million years ago when crystalized rock pushed through the earth to develop what is now a trekkers paradise.

If you are looking for pure, untamed adventure then look no further.

Rift Valley Adventures wants to put something back into the local communities we visit and work with.

The aim of our ‘Schools for Communities’ programme is to link your students with local people to create a better understanding among people from different cultures and backgrounds and support development and education projects.

You and your school can make a real difference by getting involved in projects like setting up renewable energy systems, water recycling, school development, teaching english or sport or assisting in community enterprises like bee keeping.

Schools for Communities

By getting involved in ‘Conservation at Work’ you can help contribute to desperately needed wildlife and conservation projects in Ol Pejeta Conservancy and other parts of Kenya.

Your visit provides funds for local communities and practical assistance on conservation projects such as maintaining rhino and chimpanzee sanctuaries, setting up predator proof enclosures for livestock and tree planting.

Students find themselves up close and personal with some of Africa’s most endangered wildlife and have the opportunity to make their contribution to conservation.
