Pura Batu Bolong is a small shrine located just a stone's throw from the famous Tanah Lot temple. It is perched at the end of a rocky promontory that leaps seaward into the surging Indian Ocean. Visitors to Pura Batu Bolong tends to lump it with Tanah Lot, hence its name is not as familiar.

The temple is orientated towards Gunung Agung, Bali's holiest mountain, and is a favored spot to watch the sunset. The rock underneath the temple has a natural hole that gives it its name - batu bolong (literally, 'rock with hole').

One of the legends connected to the temple relates to the story of Dang Hynag Dwijenda, a priest from East Java, who had a major influence in the development of Hinduism in Lombok and Bali.  According to the stories, the priest is said to have stopped at the temple in his spiritual journey, inspiring those in the region to follow his footsteps. Another legacy states that a woman flung herself into the depths of the sea, due to a broken heart. A more popular legacy declares that during the early years, there were countless ceremonies held to sacrifice virgins as gifts of food to the sharks that live on the beach.

Numeroase legende şi superstiţii se leagă de acest templu, fiind considerat un templu fermecat.

These trees are grown everywhere in Bali because the blossoms are very fragrant and popularly used in offerings and for hair decorations. Balinese call it Jepun. The Frangipani is among the easiest of tropical trees to propagate from seeds, cutting, and air layering. It is commonly found in the temples and also in Moslem cemeteries in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The island of Bali, like most of the islands of the Indonesian archipelago, is the result of the tectonic subduction of the Indo-Australian plate under the Eurasian plate.

Bali being part of the Sunda shelf, the island had been connected to the island of Java many times through history. Even today, the two islands are only separated by a 2.4 km Bali Strait.

The suling note is scaled in pelog or selendro system, sulings with five finger-holes for pelog system and four for slendro system.

When you hear Balinese gamelan and give an attention to the melody you will find the sound of suling (bamboo flute), the only wind instrument in the ensemble.

Suling are made mainly of bamboo, a long tube bamboo which has very thin surface. The head of suling, near a small hole, is circled with a thin band made of rattan or rotan to produce air vibration.
