The new capital of Andhra Pradesh will be called Amaravati, after the

historical capital of the Satavahana dynasty in second century A.D.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made the announcement:

“We have created history as we laid the foundation for our

‘Amaravati’, the Peoples Capital on 22nd October 2015. We aspire

to make Amaravati a true people's capital, a destination of

opportunities and a city of the future. Amaravati beckons us to

rededicate ourselves in this mission. I invite you to join me in

building our Praja Rajadhani "Amaravati" brick by brick "

Amaravati: proposed capital city of A P. The capital

is located on the banks of the River Krishna in

Guntur district.

The new city will cover a site of approximately

217.23 sq. km., within the A P Capital Region.

The Capital Region itself will cover an area of

8,352.69 sq. km., straddling on both sides of the

Krishna River, in Guntur and Krishna districts.

Amravati or Amareswaram is regarded holy because of

the presence of the Krishna river, Sthalamahatyam, a

vital Kshetra and the Sri Mahalinga Murthy.

Five different forms of Lord Shiva are called

'Pranaveswara', 'Agasteswara', 'Kosaleswara',

'Someswara' and 'Parthiveswara'.

been appointed master planners

for the new Andhra Pradesh

capital city and surrounding

region, including an 8 Sq km

seed development area. This is

the first phase of the capital city

development project, which is a

partnership between Singapore

and Andhra Pradesh.

Amaravati is also known as 'Punya-kshetra'. When

Subramanya killed the demon Tarakasura, the

Shivalingam in his throat broke and fell in five different

spots, which became the Pancharama kshetras. The

foremost of these is Amareswara at Amaravati where

Indra and the Devas are believed to have worshipped

Shiva.

Amareswaram is considered sacred because of three

things, the Krishna River, an important 'Kshetra' with a

'Sthalamahatyam' and the 'Sri Mahalinga Murthy', which

are three sacred principles embodied in one.

It was also the capital of Satavahanas, the first great

Andhra kings who ruled from the 2nd century BCE to

the 3rd century CE, after the downfall of Maurya empire.

Page 12: Andhra and Telangana of Bharath

The foundation stone of the proposed city was laid

at Uddandarayunipalem village of Guntur district

by P M Narendra Modi in October 2015.

The new capital is named after the historic site of

Amaravathi, which will also be a part of the Capital

Region.

The cities of Guntur and Vijayawada are the major

suburbs of the proposed capital

Andhra Pradesh that’s taking shape on the banks of the Krishna river.

Amaravati will be six times bigger than Chennai, that is now one of the

biggest cities in southern India. River Krishna is a great source of water

for the new capital city and its residents. In fact, the government plans to

revive decades-old waterways and canals linking the Amaravati with

cities in the Krishna delta.

“Singapore is happy to partner Andhra Pradesh on

the capital city development project. Both Surbana

and Jurong International began as government

planning units and have proven track records in

developing cities, townships and industrial parks in

Singapore, India and around the world.

The companies are privileged to be appointed as

master planners, and will bring their expertise and

experience to work with Andhra Pradesh officials on

developing a world-class capital city.”

Without Hyderabad, and before Amaravati

is real, is what is worth seeing is really ‘see-

able’ in Andhra, or we have to wait till the

tourist facilities improve?

Can we say Seemandhra is See Andhra?

Borra Caves, Katiki Waterfalls? What-else?

Page 16: Andhra and Telangana of Bharath

Andhra Pradesh hosted 121.8 million visitors in 2015, a

30% growth in tourist arrivals over the previous year.[13]

The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati is one of the

world's most visited religious sites, with 18.25 million

visitors per year.

Other pilgrimage centers in Andhra Pradesh include the

Mahachaitya at Amaravathi, and the Kanaka Durga Temple

in Vijayawada, while the state's natural attractions include

the beaches of Visakhapatnam, hill stations such as the

Araku Valley and Horsley Hills, and the island of

Konaseema in the Godavari River delta.

Thirteen districts, mostly along 974 km coastline, have

much tourist potential with investment that can bring in

returns.

For example, improve Machilipatnam (Masula), a port

town, where cyclone finished off over 30000 people

during 1864 cyclone. Establish a Natural Disaster

Mitigation Training Centre against Flood, Earthquake

and Cyclone there. Is there a memorial there?
