The process of metal cutting in which chip is formed is affected by relative motion between the workpiece and the hard edge of the cutting tool.
Depending upon relative motion different metal cutting operations are formed such as turning, drilling, milling, boring, planning, etc.

This machine removes the metal from the work piece to the required shape & size.
The workpiece is held & rotated with some speed and cutting tool is fixed at one position stationary.
Tool is single point cutting tool made of carbide tip.It is one of the earliest machine tool.It is most versatile machine tool.
