Welcome to the Renewable Age. But it’s just started - and the world is still in increasing energy poverty.

The good news: The Sun is already distributed to all people in the world. In fact, the poor have the most. But 90% have no access to electricity and grids are half the energy cost. Thankfully, the Sun needs no grid - and has free fuel.

Kyoto Energy is working to make solar energy the most cost effec-tive form of energy as it is already by far the most benign and plentiful.

The Sun gives us energy through photons. We need to apply all sorts of techniques and materials to harvest the photons for all kinds of uses. This includes Photovolta-ics, thermal and photosynthesis as well as using optics.

The biggest challenge for solar energy today is to lower the cost and increase the scale. To achieve this, Kyoto works with existingmanufacturers of high-volume materials like aluminum, plastics and cardboard.

Page 3: Kyoto Energy Catalogue

Energy needs are universal.90% of rural energy needs are for cooking, and trees pay the price.

Our solutions areas

Energy demand

Demand for fuelwood, coal and oil can be lowered by switching to something lower cost, cleaner and more convenient.

These tools must be simple and robust, allowing local manufacture, installation and service.

This energy switch can be financed using modern financial tools like carbon credits and micro finance.

It is renewables for the rest of us.

Kyoto Box is a cardboard solar cooker with acryl glass cover. It provides free energy for cooking, baking, cleaning water and drying foods. At the same time, it reduces many severe problems such as indoor smoke inhalation, fire

hazard and time loss and spinal injury from gathering firewood. It also reduces deforestation, lowers cost of energy and reduces household CO2 emissions. It packs flat and thousands can fit on a lorry.

* WHO: 1.6 million women and children die of smoke inhalation from indoor cooking each year.

Turbo

Kyoto Turbo increases the combus-tion efficiency by 300% compared to charcoal stoves.

How it Works: The air between the two cylinders heats up, rises upward and is inserted into the flames, increasing the temperature to 700°C.

This vaporizes all the smoke particles and increases the combustion efficiency three-fold.

Kyoto Turbo is a smokeless biomass cooker. It complements the Kyoto Box perfectly in providing modern household energy, as it can also be used in

the dark, and for frying foods. Kyoto Turbo uses biomassresidues such as twigs, straw, coconut husks and maizecobs.

* All countries in Africa are being deforested. Charcoal is the main culprit.

Mosaic

A new way to harvest the Sun.The new, patent pend-ing Kyoto Mosaic plastic mirrors can concentratethe Sun from 20 to 500 times with 94% efficiency.

The resulting energy can be converted to both electricity and heat - simultaneously.

Kyoto Mosaic mirrors can be made in large volumes in existing plasticinjection molding factories.Kyoto Mosaic can be used in a vari-ety of structures, all tracking the

daily and seasonal motion of the sun.

Kyoto Mosaic offers a more uniform illumination of the solar cell than existing optical solutions, enabling higher power output and longer life cycles for the solar cell.

Fresnel Mosaic

Kyoto Butterfly uses Kyoto Mosaic mirror tiles to create multifunctionalsolar energy systems that allow the co-generation of electricity andheat. The Butterfly uses 20 times concentration, which requires only5% the area of solar cells to generate the same power output.

The tracking system increases power output by 40% over fixed mountedsystems. The resulting heat can be used for a number of vital applica-tions, such as desalination, water heating, food drying and so on.

Club

We all have carbon footprints. Are you absorbing or emitting?

All our customers becomemembers of the Kyoto Club and get a membership card.Using mobile and internet tech-nology, our members volunteer information about their energy use so that the carbon savings can be documented. This helps us track the CarbonFootprints of all our users, on a family level.

Kyoto Club Carbon Credits are notjust Carbon Credits. They demonstrate positive impact on Nature, Animals and Humans. They go Negative - not just Neutral. Kyoto Club credits adhere to both Gold Standard and Social Carbon.

Retrospective

Thomas Alva Edison

“You see, we should make use of the forces of nature and should obtain all our power in this way. Sun-shine is a form of energy, wind and sea currents are manifestations of this energy. Do we make use of them? Oh no! We burn forests and coal, like tenants burning down our front door for heating. We live like wild settlers and not as though these resources belong to us.”
