Who we are. Why do we need the GIS? Our GIS ecosystem

Who we are?

• The CTTI (Telecommunications and Information Technologies Center) is a public company that belongs to the Government of Catalonia

• Its goal is to ensure the direction, planning, managing and control of the information systems and the telecommunication services of the Government of Catalonia.

• At the same time participates in different projects that the Government entrusts to develop and incentivise the growth of the Information Society in Catalonia

Why do we need GIS?

Telecommunications and associated services are critical for thedevelopment of a country: the more infraestructures & telecom servicesexist, the more the country can develop (among other kind of infraestructures)

And that is specially critical in rural areas, where normally telcomoperators don’t deploy their infraestructures because it’s not profitable

The Government of Catalonia has made an attemp to avoid the so called “Digital dividend”.

It has developed the Catalunya Connecta plan

4

Page 5: GIS Telecom Ecosystem

The “Catalunya Connecta ” plan is giving DTT coverage, mobile telephony & wideband to all municipalities of more than

50 inhabitants & mobile telephony & wideband to all theindustrial areas of CataloniaCatalunya

Connecta

Why do we need GIS?

Mobile telephony Wideband access DTT

To do so we have to be able to: Have coverage information of all services (DTT, FM, ADSL, fiber optics, mobile telephony (all

telecom operators both 2G & 3G, ...) Infrastructures asset (existing or new) Plan new services over new or existing infrastructures

Figures?

8.283 towers26.200 Mobile Telephony coverages

6.591 broadcasting coverages

900 Km of fiber optics

6.766 FO manholes

56.000 photographies

35.000 individual coverages

What have we done?

The Catalunya Connecta plan is almost fnished, with a new horizonfocused on Next Generation Networks (>100 Mbps)

We have built an ecosystem of different Information Systems. This has led us to: Intranet: Share all this information with the different Ministries of the

Government, allowing them to have access to very detailed data– GIS portal “MITEL”– GIS portal “MITEL”– Infrastructures portal “ITC”– Common database, based on Oracle– iPad/iPhone app (not yet Android, but waiting for ESRI to publish Android app)

Internet: Share this information via the internet:– Web portal to check coverage availability– Open data– Augmented reality

Remaining 112 coverage (one operator blackout)

We can see that 112 has onlyone operator giving service onthat area

With the current blackout, userson that area won’t be able tomake a 112 call
