Even though there was no mention of Pages during the F8 conference, Mark Zuckerberg did tell businesses to “rethink your industries.” Graph Rank, Ticker and Timeline are some of the new Facebook products announced, which will inevitably become available for Pages in the near future.

A Smarter News Feed

One smart feed that consolidates all stories into one stream.

No longer have “Top Stories” and “Most Recent” feeds.

Blue triangle on each post will allow users to classify content as a “Top Story.”

Clicking on this corner will mark or unmark this content as such.

If users log in to Facebook frequently, the news feed will reflect all content organized in chronological order.

“Real-Time Ticker” The news ticker appears in the top right-hand side of the home page,

above the chat section. These are real-time updates from friends of users. By clicking on an item in the ticker, a hover window will pop up that

allows users to interact with that content instantly.

“The Entire Story of Your Life”

All past content for each user will be resurfaced. User information will be featured in a “scrapbook” format. All info in one place leads to an easier viewing experience. While the social network will algorithmically pull this content, users can

also add information they deem fit with the “Way Back” section.

Integrate your brand into users’ interaction with Facebook.The Timeline increases the focus on businesses being publishers.Must produce worthwhile content.

Open Graph

Open Graph is an API for developers to create applications to connect with the Facebook timeline.

Apps only have to ask to share your information once.Increases the amount of activity shared.

Users can now go beyond liking, and can “read” books, “watch” movies and “listen” to music.Facebook deems this “Lightweight activity” and it will primarily fill the Ticker.

Graph Rank

Similar to Edge Rank, Open Graph applications will have Graph Rank.

Graph Rank gives prominence to information users are engaged with.E.g. if you interact with music content, you will receive more music content .

Curates content based on friend lists. Analytics are available within Facebook for your Graph Rank.

“Watch” Movies,“Listen” to music and “Read” the News Partnerships with Netflix, Hulu, Spotify and News Sources allow users

to engage with these partners through a canvas application.Primarily shown in the Ticker.

Users may explore new shows, movies, music and news through their friends’ activities.

Beyond the Like for Your Business

Create an app for users to integrate into their timelines.Content must have value for consumers and their friends.

No longer about “Likes.”Use other verbs.For example, if a consumer posts an update about a run they just took, that’s a prime opportunity for Nike.
