Hello.

!

We are DevelopmentNow.

!We’re excited to share our thoughts with you on how to bring

your brand’s experience and information to mobile.

Page 3: Enterprise Mobile

About DevelopmentNow

We’re based in Portland, Oregon: the startup-

centric land of coffee enthusiasts, good beer,

and the biggest mobile technology hotbed in

the US. !Our experience with mobile, design, social media, user engagement, and

working with some of the world’s top companies makes us an ideal creative

partner for you. We plan and develop like an enterprise agency, but we think and

move like a new media startup.

!We’ve been helping companies go mobile since 2006, and we look forward to

partnering with you on the same adventure: to connect and engage your users

in a whole new way.

!Over the next few pages, you’ll see a snapshot of some of our work.

We’ve been partnering with Time Warner Cable since August 2010 to bring their many customer touchpoints mobile. From paying bills,

to finding jobs, to troubleshooting remote controls -- these mobile interfaces provide more effective service and better engagement.

Remy Cointreau

Sailing Spoken Here is a web/mobile social experience allowing sailing enthusiasts to interact, access regular content, play games, and

engage with Remy Cointreau. It provides an ideal channel for the client to connect with and promote to users regularly.

Kelly Services

Kelly Services chose us to bring their global applicant tracking system into the mobile space. Our approach allowed us to gather data

and integrate with a myriad of backend services and APIs, and set the stage for several new iPhone and Android projects for 2012.

Page 7: Enterprise Mobile

Thermo Fisher

We built a iPhone/Android application allowing customers to create profiles, write and share custom content, and access helpful tools for

their daily work. Thermo Fisher can also send personalized marketing messages to users within the mobile app.

Page 8: Enterprise Mobile

Manheim

In 2009, Manheim Motors needed to find a partner in the mobile arena who could coordinate with their internal IT staff, mobilize their

complex web platform, and leapfrog their user experience forward faster than they could internally. We developed a mobile web version

and iPhone app client for their existing websites, including reporting and barcode scanning, to better serve their clients and partners.

In summary: We know how to extend brands to mobile We love what we do, and we’d love the opportunity to do it for you.

Our Approach

Page 11: Enterprise Mobile

Your Brand

We have had the pleasure of working with some of the world’s top recognizable brands,

including Microsoft, Kelly Services, Thermo Scientific, Sherwin-Williams, Remy Cointreau,

Manheim, Ogilvy, and Time Warner. We’ve also partnered with many small-to-midsize

companies, as well as startups and entrepreneurs.

!We understand the importance of brand recognition for a project such as this. We also know

that brand transcends a simple logo and color palette. With that in mind, we want your mobile

experience to not only look true to the visual identity that’s been established, but also for the

user experience to feel loyal to the physical one. The mobile context can be a new and powerful

way to experience and interact with your company, and we are committed to providing a mobile

solution that is an extension of the current brand and environment.

Page 12: Enterprise Mobile

Your People

People are at the heart of design considerations when building a mobile application. Your people

are one of the most exciting aspects of this project for us. We’ll want to learn more about who

these people are—what they do and what you’d like for them to do. What they like and what they

don’t. We recognize the value that your people bring to this project, as well as what you can tell

us about them.

!We’ll use this information to create specific user stories that identify people who might use the

mobile application, and the ways they might do it. This lens will become a filter for our design

decisions and will help create a better experience for…your people.

!

Page 13: Enterprise Mobile

Your Content

Our technology and approach allows us to connect to existing web services, databases,

or other legacy systems to directly display content and provide features to your mobile

users. This option requires our solution to be able to connect to your systems, but gives

us additional flexibility in the user interface and allows us to offer

“mashups” for more effective mobile usability.

!Our platform can also connect to your existing website's HTML, transform it into a

mobile- friendly page, and deliver it to the end user. This option (sometimes called

“screen scraping”) requires no connection to your existing systems or support from

your staff, since the platform simply connects to your existing web site. Traditional

“screen scraping” approaches can break if you update your web site, however, so we

have fortified our solution with detection and fallback mechanisms. We detect if your

web site has changed or is unavailable, and provide a default, cached, or most-recently-

used version of the mobile site to visitors while notifying our support staff of the issue.

!

Page 14: Enterprise Mobile

Our Vision

We’re not a fan of bright shiny objects (B.S.O’s), though many people in our industry confuse

them with key product features. However, those aren’t the reason people download an app, visit

a website, or make a purchase; and most certainly, they’re not a reason to come back.

!So what you won’t see from us is unnecessary shininess. We like gloss, but in moderation.

!What you will see from us is methodical thinking, scalable design, and an understanding of how

to deliver an effective solution. So should we be fortunate to work on version 2 or 3 of this

project, we’ll be able to pick up right where we left off. And if other partners are involved for v2

or v3, they will feel right at home with our code.

!

Page 15: Enterprise Mobile

Our Platform

We’ve invested thousands of hours into building a flexible, scalable mobile platform that allows

us to bring mobile sites online quickly, integrate with a variety of datasources, and provide a

foundation for mobile web, HTML5 interfaces, mapping, GPS, multimedia, and rich interactive

native apps for iPhones, iPads, Androids, and other mobile devices.

!By providing a tested, enterprise-grade platform that is scalable yet flexible, we’re able to

provide a proven feature-rich mobile solution in a fraction of the time it takes conventional web

agencies, while avoiding a limiting cookie-cutter approach seen in more traditional software-as-

a-service offerings. Our commitment to flexibility even extends to hosting options -- if you want

to host the platform yourself, feel free. It’s your brand and your mission, and we embrace your

commitment to owning that experience.

Page 16: Enterprise Mobile

Iteration

Humans do well when they have something to hold and interact with. They form critical

thoughts, grasp the potential, and connect with how a tool can be used. We aim to put

something in the hands of humans as soon as possible whenever we provide solutions. That

way, we get early feedback and are empowered to change course as necessary.

!We employ an agile methodology, to focus our team on targeted and usable components of an

overall product in an energizing and collaborative way. For many of our clients, we have a partial

build of the solution available for previewing within a few weeks. The richness of the final

experience comes from the alignment of focused increments, constant feedback from the team

and client, and the intrinsic drive to make everything better.

Page 17: Enterprise Mobile

Nuts & Bolts You’ve identified some key goals for your brand. We’ve provided some relevant

thoughts on our technology and approach over the next few pages.

Page 18: Enterprise Mobile

Your Brand on Mobile

We take mobile design seriously. Your mobile presence is an extension of your company, and it should reflect the same branding and consideration

that goes into your existing website and marketing. We make sure to incorporate logos, typefaces, content, and branding guidelines. We provide

designs that run on and make the best use of whatever devices your audience uses.

We also make sure your site is usable and effective. Mobile visitors are different than website users – they have different needs, different goals, slower

connections, and less time to spend surfing the web. We partner with you to confirm that your mobile presence provides the information, functionality,

and experience that your mobile users need and expect. Mobile design is a potential reevaluation of your users' goals and how best to meet them, and

we bring our years of experience to bear in ensuring that your project is done the right way.

Page 19: Enterprise Mobile

Metrics & Analytics

We incorporate event-driven analytics in most of our client mobile applications. It’s a

powerful tool for tracking application usage over time as well as key events within an

application. We find it valuable to identify key performance metrics for applications and

their usage contexts.

!We can provide you with custom analytics, or integrate with your existing analytics

solutions, including Google Analytics, Omniture, Webtrends, or other services. We are

experienced with providing metrics for not only mobile web solutions, but iPhone and

Android applications, and understand the tradeoffs and issues of tracking across a

variety of devices. We recognize the value of business intelligence and strive to ensure

that your goals for success are clear, relevant, and measured.

Page 20: Enterprise Mobile

Hosting

We offer a range of hosting options to fit client’s delivery needs, and price our hosting

competitively. We believe in charging for value, not locking in clients on annuities.

!For clients without an IT infrastructure or who want a vendor to manage their mobile

websites, we offers several hosting options, from cloud hosting to high-grade redundant

dedicated servers through our partnership at Rackspace. We also provide Content

Delivery Network services to ensure rapid delivery of files and content to mobile users.

!Our mobile solution can also run on your existing servers, and offer installation and

integration support as well as ongoing maintenance patches and support.

!Lastly, some clients opt to have us host the site initially in order to get up and running

quickly, and eventually transition to in-house hosting. That choice makes sense for

firms looking for the best of both worlds.

Page 21: Enterprise Mobile

Uptime & Support

While we can move like a startup, our CEO and key staff came from companies where

scalability, performance, and uptime were critical daily priorities, and we bring that

same dedication to our mobile offerings.

!Through our long-standing partnership with Rackspace, an industry leader, we are able

to offer a 100% uptime guarantee on hosting and availability. We also offer 24/7 toll-free

support for critical issues, and provide an online professional ticketing system for less

severe issues.

!In addition, we offer post-launch support timeframes and ongoing maintenance and

support options so that you can rest assured you have an available partner to keep your

mobile experience humming smoothly.

Page 22: Enterprise Mobile

Holistic Approach

As expected, there are various tasks beyond just coding that are part of our standard

project process, including project management, purchasing and configuring third party

components, setting up source control and development environments, producing test

plans, and managing deployment. We provide a full set of services so that you are free

to connect with us on the features and feedback, and allow us to set up the rest.

!In addition to mobile web and app development, we are well-versed in app store

submission, and can handle other tasks such as web development, Facebook/Twitter/

YouTube integration, and other digital endeavors with the same skill and quality.

!Lastly, we can assist you with selecting and setting up any supplementary web hosting,

analytics, or other services the project may require.

How we work

Page 24: Enterprise Mobile

DevelopmentNow is an agile yet process-driven technology

company with significant experience in enterprise project

management, software development methodologies, formal

QA and UAT cycles, and industry best practices. We use the

collaborative tools such as Basecamp, WebEx, Google

Documents, Pivotal Tracker, and others to ensure that

information is captured and shared effectively. We utilize

dedicated development servers and source control, online

ticketing systems, project management software, information

and document repositories, and virtual conferencing systems.

!Each client has an experienced, dedicated project manager

who will provide a project plan and act as a point of contact for

the project, ensuring that dates, status, responsibilities are

communicated and that the project progresses smoothly. We

are experienced with working with existing teams, processes,

and tools, and can integrate with your current workflow

whether it is a lightweight agile process or a large-scale formal

methodology involving multiple teams and layers of

information.

!Our projects are composed of five phases: Discovery,

Development, QA, Launch, and Support:

!

Discovery

We begin our projects with a formal discovery phase, where we

review goals and requirements, and develop design concepts,

documentation, and proof-of-concepts to guide the project. The

phase ends with all parties understanding timelines and

responsibilities, and with a common vision behind the visual and

functional aspects of the project.

!Development We utilize an iterative approach to development, where we update

our clients as milestones and features are completed. This allows

us to provide clients with a “sneak peek” at features on our

development servers or internal development app builds during

the actual development process, shortening the overall project

cycle and gained valuable feedback early in the project process.

!QA

While some testing occurs during the development cycle itself,

we then use a variety of professional testing techniques in our QA

cycle, including black box and white box testing, formal ticketing

systems, and device testing. We utilize not only proprietary

heuristics and years of experience, but dozens of emulators and

physical devices to ensure that your mobile experience functions

Page 25: Enterprise Mobile

correctly across a wide variety of mobile devices from all

manufacturers. Lastly, we involve the client during the

QA phase for their feedback and eventual acceptance of the

project.

!Launch

The launch phase is planned at the beginning of the project.

For website development we utilize a launch technique to

allow production-level testing and the ability to launch “at will”

and turn the site on or off with the flip of a switch. For app

store distribution we work with the client to ensure that all

logins, keys, accounts, and copy are set by launch, and we

provide guidance to minimize the chance that the app may be

rejected by Apple. We also provide contingency planning and

hands-on support during the launch phase to ensure that

everything goes smoothly. We are experienced with Apple and

Android app stores and will navigate that process for the client

if desired. For Android app store submission, there is no

approval process, so your app will be live immediately. Apple

app store submission can take 1-2 weeks, and sometimes as

long as 4 weeks.

!!

Support We consider support as part of every successful project, in case

issues occur or enhancements are requested in the future. As a

full-service company, we feel it is important to not only service

our clients successfully during the development and launch of a

project, but be available for them in the future as their needs and

businesses grow.

!Future Phases

After a project is completed, we coordinate with the team for a

post-mortem review to discuss successes, challenges, and

opportunities to continually improve. We consider ourselves a

true partner in the mobile space, and encourage clients to not

only use us as an idea factory and sounding board, but as a key

strategic partner in their firm’s quest to innovate, evolve, and

connect with its clients and users.
