RECORDING AN AUDIO FILE

1. Open Audacity

2. Use the toolbar at the top to record , play, pause and skip to start and end of your track.

3. As your track is recorded, you will see the file develop

Stop

Skip to start

Skip to end

IMPORTING AN AUDIO FILE

1. Go to file, import, audio and locate the audio file you wish to import

2. The file will now open in Audacity

EDITING AUDIO FILES

1. To edit your file, simply drag and highlight the area you wish to cut from the file.

2. To modify the selected area, a hand select tool will appear near the end s of the selected edit Drag the highlighted section to the desired point.

3. Press delete.

4. It will remove the highlighted section of the audio clip from your file.

SILENCING A SECTION OF YOUR AUDIO FILE1. Select the start and end point you wish to silence. (Great tool

if you are adding audio file to video footage and you need to hear the sound from the video file.)

2. Drag the cursor over the desired section so it is highlighted

3. On the toolbar at the top, select the silence icon

4. Notice the section of the audio file is now silenced.

TRIMMING AN AUDIO CLIP

1. Trimming an audio clip allows you to select a certain section of a clip for your audio file.

2. Highlight the section you wish to keep

3. Select the trim clip icon.

COPYING AUDIO FILES

1. Audacity also allows you to copy certain sections of an audio file and paste this into another file.

2. Select the area you wish to copy.

3. Go to edit and select copy.

4. Select where you want to paste the audio.

5. Go to edit and select paste

6. You can then join the 2 audio files together by again going to edit and selecting join.

7. NB. A stereo track cannot be mixed with a mono track.

SAVING YOUR NEW AUDIO TRACK

1. If you save the project (File – Save project or Save project as) the file will be saved as an .aup file. You can only open this file type in audacity.

2. To use the audio with other programs, go to File – Export.

3. Name your file and save it in the desired location. This way it is saved as an MP3 file and can be used in any other program.
