The earth is made of layers, for example the layers are the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. Most of them are made out of solid rock and are very thick. Each layer has a purpose. They all work together to make the Earth stay together.

If one layer didn’t work the earth would fall apart

The Mantle• The mantle is the third. The mantle is the thickest layer of the earth.

• The mantle is the layer that is below the mantle.

• Makes up 80% of earths volume.

• It takes up 67% of the Earth's

mass.

The outer core•The Earth's outer core is composed mainly of liquid iron (85 %) and nickel (5 %) •The outer core is 2,260 km thick. •The outer core's upper boundary is 2,890 km below the surface. •The outer core's lower boundary is 5,150 km below the surface.

The inner core

• Earths inner core is about 3,200 - 3,960 miles below the earth surface and mainly consists of iron, nickel.

• The deepest layer is a solid iron ball, about 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometres) in diameter.

• The inner core is the last layer in the earth it has always been the last layer

Tectonic plates

•As two plates with the ocean crust move apart a crack or rift forms•Earth seems to be the only plate in the solar system with tectonic plates• there is around 30 tectonic plates•The largest plate is the pacific plate
