The impact of loving a college sports team is obviousThey bring in hundreds of millions of dollars every year and ignite a certain level of camaraderie within the student body.

But what sort of impact does participating on a collegiate sports team have on the players?

In recent years, the NCAA have adopted provisions requiring student-athletes to meet a minimum grade point average in order to participate in college-level

College athletes are more well-rounded students than ever…

Besides higher GPA’s, what other benefits does playing on a college sports team have?

Health & FitnessCollege athletes are exposed to physical activity almost daily and expected to be and remain active much more than the average undergrad. Resources such as physical trainers, doctors, and nutritionists are more easily accessible, thus resulting in better health and a more well-rounded understanding on what it means to be healthy.

Social SkillsEven the most solitary of sports requires some form of communication, and in some cases, can be one of the most important facets of the game. Participating on a collegiate-level team can aid in honing your communication skills, helping you to become a better leader on your team and in your future endeavors.

Often reaching beyond the scope of their position, coaches will encourage their players to step it up academically, while professors wish them luck in their upcoming games. Creating a mutually supportive academic and athletic culture on campus enhances the experience for everyone

Support SystemParents, coaches, counselors, trainers, professors, and teammates make up a portion of the majority of college athletes support systems.

Future Opportunities

Let’s face it—we all don’t go on to have careers as professional athletes. However, the team-building, leadership, and communication skills learned while participating on a college-level team are invaluable to a myriad of careers. Additionally, traveling across the country to face off against different teams is an excellent networking opportunity.
