Introduction

Proper maintenance of a dirt bike plays an essential role in keeping the machine running smoothly. A dirt bike that runs well is less likely to malfunction and ruin a trip or cause injury to the rider.

Maintenance begins with simply washing the bike down with water after each ride. Following a thorough drying process, the rider can then check to see if any additional maintenance is necessary.

For instance, he or she should check tire pressure and chain tension; if the latter is easily removable from the sprocket, it needs replacement.

Next, it is important to ensure that the air filter is clean, if necessary using an air filter cleaner or household cleaner to remove debris. Finally, an oil change may be necessary depending on heaviness of use. Experts recommend oil changes at intervals ranging from each ride to every 10 running hours.
