Strategic Plan Update 2014
Wetherby Strategic Plan 2013-18
• In 2013 we created a strategic plan
• We focussed on what we wanted to be as a club
• This included
– An aspirational senior section
– A better run committee
– Improved coaching at all levels
– Retention and increase in senior player numbers
– Improvement of our financial management

– Teamwork

– Enjoyment
– Discipline
– Sportsmanship
The values of the RFU
How have we done
• More people than ever engaged in our club
• Record expenditure on coaching and kit
• Record fundraising from the RFU and external bodies
• By default an enhanced player experience
• The #oneclub initiative
Year 1 Objectives Achieved?
• 1st XV finish 1,2,3 in Yorkshire 4 - DONE
• 2nd XV out every week - DONE
• Maintain 20 players at every training session –Not quite...
• Improve quality of the WRUFC player experience - DONE
• WRUFC committee restructure – more effective - DONE
Year 1 Objectives
• Improve financial Management and Plan, creation of Budgets – Not quite there
• Coherent social and fundraising strategy implemented – in progress
• Focus on qualified coaches thereby improving the quality of coaching - DONE
• Revise coaching set up and strategy - DONE
• Leverage RFU relationship - DONE
Year 1 Objectives
• Break even financially whilst maintaining a historical reserve - DONE
• Formalise the old boys network to encourage support - DONE

• Adam Schofield – Girls 13’s to 18’s
• Provides guidance, assesses effectiveness

Training Aims
• Seniors
– Tuesday – Mike + Assistant dependent on numbers
– Thursday – Mike + 2nd XV bespoke sessions
• Under 17’s – 19’s Colts
– Aim to migrate to Tuesday training alongside seniors (currently Wednesday)
– Thursdays optional

3 Year Objectives (by end of 15/16)
• Seniors in Yorkshire 3 by end 2015 season
• 3 senior sides inc VETS
• 30 players training regularly on Tuesday and Thursday
• Transition 5-10 from Juniors to Seniors each year
• Maintain a senior player base of 60
(for the 1st and 2nd XV)
3 Year Objectives
• Maintain a junior player base of 300+ (plus Micro’s)
• Develop coaching structure, head coach, Forwards coach, backs coach, strength and conditioning
• Upgrade Stand to a 100 seater facility through Grant funding
• Raise £10k per year through grants or
external sponsorship
5 Year Key Objectives (end of 2018)
• Senior 1st team in Yorkshire 2
• Minimum 25 players per team at junior section
• Maintain 3 full senior teams plus VETS
• Improve pitch side facilities including a grandstand and increased lighting
• Create a consistent and significant supporter base for senior sides
• Transition 10 players from junior to senior
each year
How Do We Make Progress
• An active committee who get things done
• Encourage support from all members of the rugby club
• Involve more people in the activities at the club
• Work as a team
• Acknowledge that we are all volunteers
• Enjoy the success and friendships
