Koinonia ~ Bill Wade
In trying to decide what to call my section in the bulletin, I wanted to call it something that was thought provoking as well as meaningful. I want this section to be useful to us all and one that will encourage togetherness as we grow closer as a church family and as we grow closer towards our God. I want to use this section to be informative of what’s happening at church but also to hopefully motivate us to become more involved with each other and to encourage fellowship. So, a logical question to ask is:
Koinonia ~ Bill Wade
What is Koinonia?
Koinonia is a Greek word that occurs 20 times in the Bible. Its primary meaning is “fellowship, sharing in common, communion.” The first occurrence of koinonia is Acts 2:42. Christian fellowship is a key aspect of the Christian life. Believers in Christ are to come together in love, faith and encouragement. That is the essence of koinonia.
Koinonia ~ Bill Wade
A powerful example of what koinonia should look like can be found in a study of the phrase “one another” in the Bible. Scripture commands us to be devoted to one another (Romans 12:10), honor one another (Romans 12:10), live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8), accept one another (Romans 15:7), serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13), be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32), admonish one another (Colossians 3:16), encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 3:13), spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24), offer hospitality (1Peter 4:9), and love one another (1 Peter 1:22; 1 John 3:11; 3:23; 4:7; 4:11-12). That is what true biblical koinonia should look like.
Koinonia ~ Bill Wade
I believe great things are going to happen this year at Henderson. It’s going to take all of us working together and motivating and encouraging each other to make that happen. Let’s be determined individually to practice koinonia.
Let’s Sing ~ God’s Family #855We're part of the family that's been born again;
Part of the family whose love knows no end;
For Jesus has saved us, and made us His own,
Now we're part of the family that's on its way home.
Chorus:
And sometimes we laugh together, sometimes we cry,
Sometimes we share together, heartache and sighs;
Sometimes we dreams together of how it will be
When we all get to heaven, God's family.
When a brother meets sorrow we all feel his grief;
When he's passed through the valley we all feel relief;
Together in sunshine, together in rain,
Together in victory thru His precious name.
And though some go before us, we'll all meet again;
Just inside the city as we enter in;
There'll be no more parting, with Jesus we'll be
Together forever, God's family.

Acts 2: 42 – 47 ESV42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Romans 15: 25 - 27
25 At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem bringing aid to the saints. 26 For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. 27 For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to sharein their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings.

1 Corinthians 1: 4 – 9 ESV
4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— 6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 10: 16
16 The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participationin the body of Christ?

2 Corinthians 6: 14 – 16 ESV
14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,and I will be their God,and they shall be my people.
2 Corinthians 8: 3 – 5 ESV
3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
2 Corinthians 9: 13 – 14 ESV
13 By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.

2 Corinthians 13: 11 – 14
11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you. 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowshipof the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Galatians 2: 9 ESV
9 and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

Philippians 1: 3 – 5 ESV
3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
Philippians 2: 1 – 2 ESV
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Philippians 3: 8 – 11 ESV
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Philemon 1: 4 – 7 ESV
4 I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, 5 because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints, 6 and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. 7 For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.
Hebrews 13: 16 ESV
16 Do not neglect to do good and to sharewhat you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
I Peter 4: 12 – 13 ESV
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you shareChrist’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

1 John 1: 1 – 3 ESV
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1 John 1: 6 – 7 ESV
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
I want to share with you again the last part of the Journal entry of Veletia Tatom – January 3, 2014
My spirit is well, my love for
My God is strong, my eye sight
On my home in Heaven is bright.
The Holy Spirit keeps my heart good.
The Lord Jesus Christ walks with me.
He will be with me all the way home.
My spirit is well, my love for
My God is strong, my eye sight
On my home in Heaven is bright.
The Holy Spirit keeps my heart good.
The Lord Jesus Christ walks with me.
He will be with me all the way home.
My question to each of us as we reflect upon our fellowship ~ Does our example of fellowship allow us to make the same statement as my Mother?
