Whom shall we call Enemy?Whom shall we call Enemy?

Enemy is one who does not want you to achieve your goal.

So, What is the Goal? So, What is the Goal?

It is to please Allah. Or In other words to enter Jannah.

Page 5: The Enemy Within

Nafs-e-MutmainnaNafs-e-Mutmainna

"O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! "Come back to your Lord well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)! "Enter you then among My (honoured) slaves, "And enter you My Paradise!” (Quran-89:27-30)

It is not the satisfaction which man gets when his worldly needs are fulfilled. Because soon after it takes the form of greed. Moreover worldly satisfaction is temporary.

This is the state of satisfaction achieved by the soul after submitting totally to Allah.

Nafs-e-AmmaraNafs-e-Ammara

Has property of earth, i.e. it always pulls man downwards.

Moving down is easier compared to moving up.

Three basic acts of Nafs-e-Ammara:1. Through shameless and vulgar things,

commands to do evil acts.2. Through anger and rage, creates conflicts

between the people and leads to bloodshed.3. Through pride and ego, creates disparity in

the society.

How nafs-e-ammara deceives How nafs-e-ammara deceives us?us?

Nafs-e-ammara deceives us in a progressive manner.

Begins with ears and eyes and finally targets private parts.

We speak what we listen – Deaf will also be Dumb.Eyes make sin by watching immoral things.Uncontrolled gaze can easily end up with private

parts.

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do. (Quran 24:30)

A brief (hi)story of Shaitan A brief (hi)story of Shaitan (Satan)(Satan)

And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.". And they prostrated except Iblis (Satan), he refused and

was proud and was one of the disbelievers (disobedient to Allah). (Quran 38:76)

Page 12: The Enemy Within

A brief (hi)story of Shaitan A brief (hi)story of Shaitan (Satan)(Satan)

[Iblis (Satan)] said: “I am better than he. You created me from fire, and You created him from

clay”. (Quran 38:76)

Page 13: The Enemy Within

A brief (hi)story of Shaitan A brief (hi)story of Shaitan (Satan)(Satan)

(Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one).“ "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day

of Resurrection)”. (Quran 15:34-35)

Page 14: The Enemy Within

A brief (hi)story of Shaitan A brief (hi)story of Shaitan (Satan)(Satan)

(Iblis) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them

(human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and

You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)“. (Quran

7:16-17)

What does Satan do to us? What does Satan do to us?

Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden).

(Quran 2:36)

Page 16: The Enemy Within

What does Satan do to us? What does Satan do to us?

He [Shaitan (Satan)] commands you only what is evil and Fahsha (sinful), and that you should say against Allah what you know not. (Quran

2:169)

Page 17: The Enemy Within

What does Satan do to us? What does Satan do to us?

Shaitan (Satan) threatens you with poverty … (Quran 2:268)

Page 18: The Enemy Within

What does Satan do to us? What does Satan do to us?

Shaitan (Satan) verily, sows a state of conflict and disagreements among them. (Quran

17:53)

Page 19: The Enemy Within

What does Satan do to us? What does Satan do to us?

O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling, and Al-Ansab ,

and Al-Azlam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitan's

(Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be

successful. (Quran 05:90)

Page 20: The Enemy Within

What does Satan do to us? What does Satan do to us?

Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the

dwellers of the blazing Fire. (Quran 35:6)

Progressive deception of Progressive deception of SatanSatan

Satan comes to us as our well wisher. Then slowly takes us step by step towards the evil path.

Vain DesiresVain Desires

And recite (O Muhammad وسلم عليه الله to them (صلىthe story of him to whom We gave Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but he threw them away; so Shaitan (Satan) followed him up, and he became of those who went astray. And had We willed, We would surely have elevated him therewith but he clung to the earth and followed his own vain desire. So his parable is the parable of a dog: if you drive him away, he lolls his tongue out, or if you leave him alone, he (still) lolls his tongue out. Such is the parable of the people who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). So relate the stories, perhaps they may reflect. (Quran-7:175-176)

Destination – Don’t just wish rather resolve it.

Keep it at highest priority

To achieve Jannah or in other words to achieve the state of Nafs-e-Mutmainna we have a two step strategy known as Tazkiya or Self Purification.1. Weaken the enemies within and 2. Strengthen the friends within
