CONFLICT RESOLUTION 1600-
1700
What should you have done? How should you
have reacted? ETC!
HOW I FEEL AS A TEACHER
WHAT CAME BEFORE
The Catholic Church was
considered the sole source of
answers before the Scientific
Revolution occurred.
SO WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Many scientific concepts that
were developed during this time
period disproved things the
Catholic Church taught.
SO HOW DID THE CATHOLIC CHURCH FEEL?
The Catholic Church,
which taught that
everything had to be
accepted by faith, didn’t
appreciate the
scientists questioning
them.
POWER LINES!
The Catholic Church
believed its power was
threatened. And like a
wise man once said,
“No one who gains
power wants to lose it.”
Galileo was
ordered to recant
(say he was wrong)
about his beliefs or
face death
SO WHAT DID THEY DO?
The most famous example…
THE CRAZY PART?
Most of the scientists were not trying to
fight the church and many were Christians.
“It is the perfection of God's works that
they are all done with the greatest simplicity.
He is the God of order and not of confusion.”
Isaac Newton
THE RESULTS?
Philosophers took note of the scientists’
successes and began to imagine how they
could challenge the political powers.
The goal – to make a more free country.
