Joy

• Luke 1:14 He (John the Baptist) will be a joy.

• Luke 1:44 The baby (John the Baptist) in my womb leaped for joy. Elizabeth was happy to see Mary.

• Luke 1:47 “and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,” Mary was honored to share in God’s work.

• Luke 1:58 they (Elizabeth’s neighbors and relatives) shared her joy. They heard that the Lord showed her great mercy by bearing a child, John the Baptist.

Life

• John 1:4 In him was life.

• Life is not simply the period between birth and death.

• It means our spirits become alive.

• Life is the opposite of death.

Light

• John 1:4 and that life was the light of all mankind. John writes about the spiritual light. The life, Jesus, is the light of man.

• John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Darkness is everything evil. The darkness has never understood the light.

• John 1:7 He (John the Baptist) came as a witness to testify concerning that light.

• John 1:8 He (John the Baptist) was not the light. Jesus is the Light.

• John 1:9 “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”

Witness

• John 1:7, 8 “He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.”

• to bear witness= to declare

Believe

• John 1:7 so that through him all might believe.

• Through John the Baptist we might believe.

• Believe= to trust.
