How It Flies

The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Mark 6:30-31

While on vacation, my family celebrated a few milestones in our time together. On June 21, Father’s Day (my first official, actually), Grayson turned a year old. A whole year, just like that. How times does fly ... That morning, Susan had prepped our TV in order for me to receive my first Father’s Day present, a home video she compiled of various pictures and videos of Grayson and me together. It was better than anything she could have purchased. Cards on the table, it was the most emotional gift I’ve ever received. Watching those photos scroll and those videos play made me realize how much time had passed and how precious it has been to watch that little fella grow. Knowing I had been there, along for the ride, and seeing it play out in front of me was truly overwhelming. My first Father’s Day reinforced to me that no matter what I might accomplish in life, there will be nothing in comparison to being Grayson’s father. After that, just a few short days in fact, Susan celebrated a milestone 30th birthday. I had promised her last year that we would spend her birthday at the beach, her only request. Having time to reflect on the years together, now marked by the addition of Grayson to our family made the time that much more special. The importance of time spent in rest wasn’t lost on Jesus. When his disciples came to him reporting their own weariness, Jesus offered them a place to rest, one found in his presence. What’s Your Bugle? Numbers 10 tells of God’s command that Moses make two bugles for various purposes:

summoning the leaders, sending the people to war, announcing worship, presenting offer-ings, calling everyone for a festival. “Blow the bugles,” declares the Lord. “They will keep your attention on God” (v. 10, The Message).

What “bugles” draw our attention to God? Maybe church bells chime daily near your home. Maybe worship attendance serves as the “bugle” that calls you back to the Divine. Some people place a small dot-sticker on the face of their watch to remind them to pray

whenever they check the time. A sticker on your cell phone might work even better. May-be you set your Bible or devotions on the kitchen table before bed to remind you to start

your day with God.

God’s people get distracted easily, whether with tent-pitching in the desert 3,500 years ago or with jam-packed schedules today. We all need a bugle. What’s yours?

Please note: If for some reason you are not available to help on the day that you volunteered to work, we ask that you please don’t forget to find a replacement for yourself so there is adequate coverage during the worship service. Also, if you have a change in the schedule for the children’s nursery or children’s church, please contact the monthly coordinator so that the change can be made prior to the printing of the worship bulletin. However, any permanent changes in the schedule should continue to be handled by the lead coordinator.

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for four months of amazing worship, a faithful choir, wonderful

musicians, and sweet fellowship. Many of you have reached out to me with affirmation and love and I appreciated every moment spent in service and leadership at Knightdale Baptist Church.

If you weren’t aware, I offered myself to the interim music director position for a short term because of my family’s calling to another church. However, I’ve fallen in love with

Knightdale! So, until your new Music Director arrives, if you continue to see me from time to time, don’t be surprised. I will continue to serve as a volunteer to help lead choir on

Wednesday night and in worship planning, as needed. You are fortunate to have willing and talented choir members who can lead just as well, or even better, than I.

The impact that this church can provide to this growing and beautiful town brings joy and hope to my heart. I encourage you to continue to seek ways to reach out into the

community, being the hands and feet of Christ to those who so desperately need the love and support of a faithful and committed church of God.

Blessings and much love to you all,

Rebecca, Tim and Carter Hall

A Musical Note From Rebecca ...

Wedding Shower

There will be a floating wedding shower for Rachel Spivey Sunday, July 19th from 2:00-3:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Rachel is the daughter of Marsha Spivey.

Rachel is registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Count the Stars “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them,” God told Abram (Genesis 15:5, NRSV). On a clear summer night, especially if you can get away from city lights, try this yourself: “Look toward heaven and count the stars …” Although none of us can count them all, someone has calculated (don’t ask me how!) that if a grain of sand represented a star, you’d need 94,608,000 railroad hopper cars full of sand to represent all the stars of the universe. If you watched all the cars pass by, one per second, you’d be standing there for three years! As we gaze at the sky on a warm summer night, our minds can’t comprehend such a vast universe. Yet our hearts can comprehend a God great enough to craft it.
