As service concluded and I made my way towards the front door, a slender gentleman with a thick gray beard greeted me with a smile. He looked entirely exhausted from the hot July sun, and his deep set tan was evidence of his exposure. He happily agreed to wait until the congregation had filed out before making his request. After our regular folks had made their way through the reception line, I stepped over to find out our visitor’s reason for stopping by. He introduced himself as Brother William, a member of an Amish community in Pennsylvania. This was following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, where he had been assisting with the relief efforts. Having come back to the States, starting out in Florida, he had ridden his bicycle all the way to North Carolina! In sharing his story, he continually pointed to the worn bicycle with the small, loaded-down wagon behind. It turned out his request wasn’t monetary, but rather a housing issue. Feeling faint from traveling in the summer heat, he asked for a place to sleep a while. Our diaconate chair was still helping close up the building, so I ran the idea by him to let Brother William sleep the night in the church’s newly constructed fellowship hall. We offered to help him find a hot meal and bedding, but he deferred to his already packed belongings, thanking us again and again for use of the facilities. Setting up his new camp in the corner of the large hall, he continued showing me documents to prove his validity. After reassuring me he had all he needed, I left him in his privacy to rest. The next morning, as I arrived for my regular office responsibilities, I was surprised to find Brother William already gone! The chair of deacons informed me he had stopped in to check on him earlier and found him cleaning up his station, packed, and ready to go. Off he went for the next leg of his journey returning home. All this happened the same Sunday I preached a sermon on sharing blessings. As we celebrate our country’s history of independence and freedom, I charged the church with sharing our resources as those having been blessed by God. Brother William showed up to help us put our money where our mouth was, so to speak. This time of year, I’m always reminded of Brother William and his commitment to serving the Lord. His efforts help remind me that as we celebrate the freedom we enjoy in our nation, it truly is a blessing from God that we’re meant to appreciate and, more importantly, to share. We bear a responsibility to help others along the journey in sharing our resources to truly function as the community of faith in our community, nation, and world. INSIDE This Issue

An Interesting Visitor (Independence Day with an Amish guy)

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

- James 1:22

During my first year serving as a full-time pastor, July 4th weekend brought an interesting visitor. As service began that Sunday morning, our designated usher let me know a gentleman wanted to speak with me, but would wait until service was over.

During this time of celebration, may God provide you with opportunities to share of

your own resources, to further aid others and contribute to the growing Kingdom of

God.

Please note: If for some reason you are not available to help on the

day that you volunteered to work, we ask that you please don’t forget to find a replacement for yourself so there is adequate coverage

during the worship service. Also, if you have a change in the schedule

for the children’s nursery or children’s church, please contact the

monthly coordinator so that the change can be made prior to the printing of the worship bulletin. However, any permanent changes in

the schedule should continue to be handled by the lead coordinator.

Thank you for all your help.

As I shared after my first visit to Belarus in 2009, never underestimate the power of missions. The financial gifts, supplies, love, care and concern KBC has shared with this family over the past 16 years has made a positive impact on their lives. I know this personally from my two visits and know they hold

Tatyana graduated from the University June 23 and will be arriving in America on July 10, her first visit since 2008! She looks forward to seeing her KBC friends on Sunday, July 13. Denis has finished his first year at the University and continues to play soccer for the team that recruited him three years ago.

KBC close in their hearts with love and gratitude. Thank you, KBC, for blessing Tatyana, Denis, and their family. To God be the glory…great things He is doing in Belarus and beyond! Rita Blackmon

that they do this entirely with their beaks. What an amazing Creator we worship! Now, with the nest built, mama bird sits perched on the nest in anticipation of laying her eggs. The male gathers food and brings it back to the nest. I am reminded of two passages in God’s Word as I observe this wonderful process. One is Jesus’ teaching regarding worry where He tells the disciples, 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

A few weeks ago I began to notice the same two birds frequenting our porch. With each passing day it was becoming more evident that this fine-feathered couple had scouted the entire neighborhood and decided the inside corner of our porch would be the ideal place for their nest. I had a decision to make. In the past I had allowed building of nests to occur and had also stopped some when other birds had chosen or tried to locate here. This time, however, I decided to let the process continue in order to observe these wonderful creatures and I’m glad I did. Slowly and methodically, these wonderful creatures began the task of building a home for their family. The fascinating thing to me is

27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:26-27 NIV) And secondly, Philippians 4:19, where Paul reminds us that “God will supply your

needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” This observation reminds me that God cares so much for us and that he will supply all our needs, just as he does for his creation. So today, let me encourage each of you to look for new ways to worship Him. To God be the Glory!

July 7th - 11th 6:30 - 9:00 pm

This year’s VBS theme is: WEIRD ANIMALS

Where Jesus’ Love is One-of-a-Kind

VBS Kickoff: July 6th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Knightdale Station Park

God filled the world with a lot of crazy creatures … including you! When kids feel weird, different, or even lost in a crowd – nothing compares to the extraordinary love of Jesus. Kids need to know they are loved unconditionally. Today’s kids, families, and relationships are broken. Kids feel like they have to measure up – whether it’s in sports, music, or school. With the support of this year’s VBS theme, kids will walk away knowing that “Weird isn’t a bad thing. When you hear it, you think you are unique and that God created you unique.” VBS needs your help! We are looking for volunteers to help serve for both the VBS Kickoff and VBS week. We are also looking for individuals and/or Sunday School classes to help with providing food each night for our VBS workers. Classes can go in together if they would like. We are looking to prepare enough food for 40 people each night. If you would like to help, please contact Beverly Hinton or Terri Lucas at 919-452-8727 or [email protected] for more details.
