WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
My magazine is very current, and would suit a mass market audience due to it
mainly being a mainstream magazine. The institution I would most like to distribute
my magazine is IPC media, this is because they are a well-established institution in
whom release magazines globally. Although they already have a music magazine
named “NME” my magazine would be a different type of genre which would bring
a new type of audience to the company. My target audience is mainly the teenagers,
this I have chosen to do deliberately because research shows that they are the most
media savvy, as 85% of teenagers purchase magazines on a regular bases, therefore
it would be a wise option to create the magazine for this age range.
IPC Media have a lot of experience when it comes to distributing magazines,
and currently help within distributing a substantial amount of magazines of all
types of genres, but currently don’t have a music magazine similar to mine, making
it a great opportunity for both me and them. They have a lot of experience, and are
well known, which means that they are reliable and people have security and faith
when purchasing a magazine which has been distributed by them. IPC Media have
also invested in extending their brands into TV, web, mobile, radio or shopping, are
more likely to weather the impact than those with standalone products or thinner
portfolios of titles.
Bauer is another company that I would be partial to distributing my magazine,
as they have a lot of knowledge when it comes to distributing magazines and again
are well established, they already distribute popular music magazines such as “Q”
and “Kerrang” however these magazines are both categorised under “men’s
entertainment” so I could sway my magazine more towards being a female music
magazine, which would appeal to a different type of market to the ones that their
current ones appeal to. They also work well together with many radio stations, this
shows a multi-platform convergence in which well help to distribute the magazine
globally, making it well known.
A company that I perhaps would be less keen distributing my
magazine is “FUTURE PLC” This is because the artists I have
featured in my magazine are very current, whereas FEAUTURE PLC
focuses on working artists up to be something big, and is a niche
market, whereas I have clearly established my magazine as mainstream
