GOOGLE PENGUIN ALGORITHMGoogle penguin is an algorithm that was first introduced on April 24, 2012 with the aim to decrease the ranking of the websites that violate Google’s Webmaster Guideline. This update has increased the relevancy and quality of the results of the search engine.
According to the internet marketing experts, following types of volition can cause a negative impact of the update on the websites: -
Aggressive exact-match anchor text Overuse of exact-match domains Low-quality article marketing & blog spam Keyword stuffing in internal/outbound links
PENGUIN #1 - APRIL 24, 2012 Google 1st Penguin update – released on April 24, 2012 This algorithm affects around 3.1% of English queries Websites using web spam technique heavily affected.
PENGUIN #2 - MAY 26, 2012 The Google Penguin’s 2nd update – May 26, 2012 The algorithm affected less than 0.1% of English searches.
PENGUIN #3 - OCT 5, 2012 3rd Google Penguin update – October 5, 2012. Around 0.3% of English queries affected due to this new update.
PENGUIN 2.0 (#4) - MAY 22, 2013 4th Penguin update (dubbed “Penguin 2.0”) – arrived on May 22,
2013. Impact on nearly 2.3% of English queries. The update affected websites of almost all the languages over the
World Wide Web.
PENGUIN 2.1 (#5) - OCT 4, 2013 Google launched another (latest) Penguin update 2.1 (#5) on Oct.
4, 2013 Impact on around 1% search queries in English.
