A film institution is an

organisation which provides

media content and supplies

the context within which

media products are produced. The first step

towards distributing a film is

the studio buying the rights.

The studio then makes a

licensing agreement with a

distribution company and

decides how many copies of

the film are made. After this,

the studio negotiates deals

to sell the lease to buyers.

In a race against the

clock, Detective Sean

Finch must hunt down

the sadistic killer who

contacted him in an attempt to stop his vile

plan to kill 36 people in

36 hours. Will Sean be

able to find the mysterious man? Or will

he too fall victim to the

toxin that slowly courses

through his veins?

The Bourne Identity

- A man is picked up by a fishing

boat, bullet-riddled and suffering

from amnesia, before racing to

elude assassins and regain his

memory. This relates to our

thriller as he doesn’t really

understand what is going on and

he has to try and save himself. Crank- Professional assassin Chev

Chelios learns his rival has

injected him with a poison

that will kill him if his heart

rate drops. This is similar to

our thriller as a toxin is

involved and he also has to

try and save himself.

A media conglomerate

is a company that owns large amounts of

companies in various

mass media like film,

television, radio, publishing and the internet.

A big Hollywood conglomerate

would not make our film

because we are first time

filmmakers and so they wouldn’t

want to take such a big risk in

that they are likely to lose

money due to this. Being first time filmmakers also

means that there will not be any

pre-sold elements, big name

actors, beautiful locations,

stunts or CGI as we do not have

the budget. This would mean

that although we are spending

less money, we are going to

make much less money and a

big Hollywood conglomerate

doesn’t want that.

Film festivals, YouTube

for a small fee, our own

websites, iTunes, free

screenings for friends

are all good methods to

guarantee people would

want to watch our film

as it would garner attention for the film in

addition to promoting it

via social networking

and allow it to become

more recognised.

Vertigo Films is a British film production

and film distribution company based in London, England. It has been responsible

for films such as Bronson, Sweeney and

Monsters.

Vertigo would be a good

producer and distributor

for our film because it is

a much lower-budget film

company than Hollywood

conglomerates but has

still managed to make

many successful films

and also prides itself on

being at the forefront of

new talent and so would

be a good platform to get

our names noticed.

The FacilityAt a remote hospital, a group of

seven strangers begin a clinical trial

for an experimental new drug. As the

untested drug begins to flow through

their veins, unforeseen side-effects

start to occur and some of the

volunteers are sent into an

uncontrollable murderous rage. This is similar to our film as they have

been injected with a toxin that causes

life-threatening outcomes.However, the film wasn’t much of a

success at the box office as there are

no statistics to show how much

money it made. It will have made

money from selling the DVD’s to

other companies, but it isn’t clear,

therefore, whether a profit was made.

1 DayFlash wakes up to a phone call from

Angel who has been released from

prison and wants the £500,000 he left

Flash for safekeeping. Flash is

£100,000 short of the full amount and

is forced to strike a deal with Evil as he

races against the clock while also being

pursued by a rival gang. This film relates to our thriller as the

main character has a dangerous task to

complete in a short amount of time. However, this film also wasn’t a big

success at the box office as there are

also no statistics to show how much

money it made. Like ‘The Facility’, it

will have made money from selling the

DVD’s to other companies, but this

means that it isn’t clear if it made a

profit.

If our film was picked up and was

going to be released it would go

to an independent cinema

because it is an independent film

and wouldn’t compare to other

higher-budget films in the

multiplex.

The film would have a

simultaneous release in all

formats as independent films

have smaller budgets and so

distributors only need to spend

money on one marketing

campaign, rather than separate

campaigns for each release

window.

Magnolia Pictures

would be a good distribution company

to release our film in

the USA and could actually release our film in the USA as they

specialise in foreign films (as ours is from

the UK) and independent films, like

ours.

How I Live Now- This is also a thriller

and has an audience of

15+ which is the same

as ours. Along the way,

the main character has

to fight for her survival

which one of our main

character’s goal’s to

achieve also.- This film was released

on 3 screens in the US

and made $60,213.
