Our thriller’s plot synopsis

A protagonist makes his way throughout a state school and begins to fearlessly start massacring innocent students and teachers. The killer meets with a teacher in the school, who happens to have relations to the protagonist; and the killer is given more orders as to what chaos to cause throughout the film.

Why Hollywood wouldn’t make our film

A big Hollywood conglomerate are highly unlikely to make our film, as we are first time filmmakers, without any pre-sold elements, big name actors, eye-catching locations and stunts, or any CGI. Our budget and knowledge of the film industry is too minor for those mega film companies to produce our film.

How would we get people to watch our film?

Technology has evolved greatly throughout recent decades, therefore we have the advantage of online advertisements, such as social networking sites. As first time filmmakers, it is vital for our film to get noticed in the largest margin of the net possible. We also have the option to pay for advertising on mass websites such as Google and YouTube. We can have our film published on many different platforms ie YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google etc. This will allow people to freely view our film, and with the help of social networking, to be able to share our film with their friends.

Research of British film companies similar to our film

Vertigo Films are one of the biggest film companies in the UK, who have received multiple awards over the past few years. They have a few films that are similar to ours; such as ‘The Sweeney’, ‘WΔZ’ (pronounced double-u delta zed) and ‘Outlaw’. All of these films are thrillers, and are aimed at people roughly between the ages of 15 until mid 30s. This film company would be a good fit for our film, as they produce films that are similar to ours in terms of genre and target audience.

Why Vertigo?

Vertigo work with first time filmmakers and help them get their films noticed by the public, such as ‘Monsters’, produced by Gareth Edwards, who has since gone on to work on ‘Godzilla’.

Vertigo are also vertically integrated, which means that they make films as well as distribute them. They also distribute through much of Europe, therefore leading to a more global scale audience for us. Additionally, if they make and produce our film, they would have invested more time into, therefore would be more willing to promote it.

Vertigo have proved that they can profit via distributing just to DVD markets, which is what we are planning, as well as having an agreement to work with XBOX, to stream their films. This opens up opportunities that our film will end up reaching our specific target audience.

Did those films become a success?

‘The Sweeney’ – Turned over £4 million and was released in the UK

‘WΔZ’ – The film was a very limited success and made its only capital on DVD

‘Outlaw’ – Turned over £1.5 million

How the film would be distributed

If we had Vertigo finished making our film, we would upload it straight to DVD. This would allow mobile and quick access to download our film. This would also ensure that we can obtain a larger margin of the film market, in order to get our film more recognized.

How to get our film distributed in the USA

There are small distribution companies in the USA that would distribute our films, such as Magnet and Magnolia. They would be able to distribute our film in the USA, as most likely it would not be able to be distributed by other big film distributors. They would do this because they produce low budget British films. They are small, and therefore it would be beneficial on both sides, in order to get our film viewed in other countries worldwide.

British films released by Magnet

‘Monsters (2010)’ was a British film that was released in the USA. They ended up turning over $4 million in the USA. They had 164 screens in the UK, and only 3 in the USA. The similarities between ‘Monsters’ and our film is that it is low budget, and would be able to be accepted into being published in the USA by film publishers such as Magnet.
