THE BRIEF NEW CALEDONIA TOURISM BOARD
The island of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean is not as well know as some of its neighbours. The Tourism Board had noticed virtual reality was successfully being used by travel companies such as Thomas Cook to give potential tourists an insight in to what their real holiday could look like.
They asked Start VR to propose an interactive VR user experience, using 360 video to showcase New Caledonia’s exotic attractions from never seen before perspectives.
A VIRTUAL TASTE USER EXPERIENCE
Start VR designed a VR application that combined 360 video footage with an immersive, interactive user experience that was delivered on the Samsung Gear and Google Cardboard.

The Start VR Graphics, Unity and App Development team designed a custom application interface that gave users the ability to explore different parts of the island.

STORYBOARD THE VR NARRATIVE
The VR app provided twelve scenes of immersive, sensory and interactive content experiences that users unlocked as they ‘moved’ around the island.
FILM 360 VIDEO
Start VR scripted and filmed twelve, 360 videos which allow the user to experience the island from unique perspectives, hear compelling stories from locals, explore private paradise beaches and gardens; be awed by the natural beauty, and appreciate the cosmopolitan New Caledonia lifestyle.
MOBILE INTEGRATION PUBLISHING / ANALYTICS
Users that do not have a Gear VR headset can download the New Caledonia app via iOS or Android and also watch the videos.
E-COMMERCE DIRECT RESPONSE
By activating the ‘VR’ on button, anyone with an iPhone or Android phone can take a virtual tour of your chosen destination with a Google Cardboard, then within in the app users can link directly to search for flights.
OFFLINE INTEGRATION IN FLIGHT SALES / ENTERTAINMENT
The New Caledonia VR content was made available to Qantas Business Class passengers
PAID MEDIA DISTRIBUTION 360 VIDEO DISPLAY
Start VR has partnered with Omnivirt to deliver a 360 video player that can be integrated with rich media units.
