IS AFTERSHAVE REALLY NECESSARY?

Many black men want to finish their skin care routine as quickly as possible. Thus, they skip certain steps so they can be in and out of the bathroom and on with the rest of their busy schedule. The most common product to be skipped over is aftershave. Many do not know what benefit aftershave even has, if any. Granted it is the last step but don’t run from the mirror just yet!

WHAT IS AFTERSHAVE?

After shave can be in the form of a balm, gel, powder, lotion or liquid and is primarily used after shaving the skin. It is also sometimes known as astringent. An astringent, sometimes referred as toner, keeps pores closed and dries up any blemishes or cuts during shaving. After shaves are commonly based with alcohol but there are many brands that do not use such harsh ingredients as they can be harmful for those with sensitive skin.

SHOULD I USE IT?

Everyone should use an astringent after shaving to close his pores and ensure that dirt and oil does not enter the freshly exposed skin. Before shaving you open your pores by putting warm water on the face. Having your pores remain open after shaving can lead to acne, blemishes or razor bumps which no one wants after a fresh shave.
