AFD ConnectsStudents get the chance to exchange their theoretical knowledge into practice, to gain international experience and to make a real difference in the world.
The developing world asks for sustainable development with focus on local communities, where small-scale projects can actually make a difference.
The business world wants to express their corporate social responsibility in a credible way and is furthermore eager to meet interested and ambitious students..

Vevoza – South Africa
CHALLENGE Set up of a software system allowing stakeholders to sign up
Develop a website to gain more publicity
Sensibilisation of employers on how to deal with capital and savings
Negotiate with local banks and financial institutions to create saving accounts for employees
DURATION 6-8 weeks
Vevoza is a 4th pilar organisation and has the goal to open a job office in Calvinia, a village in the North-West of South Africa.
AquaRed - GhanaAquaRed is an organisation linked to the International Red Cross that provides water distribution in Ghana.
CHALLENGE Build a roadmap to implement the AquaRed structure in another African country
Optimize the current business plan
Create an awareness campaign to support the ‘Water Reference Center’
DURATION 6-8 weeks
11.11.11. – Peru & Philippines
CHALLENGE Write a file about the current carbon emission trading policy of the Flemish & Belgian government
Examine the current effects of this policy by doing a case study in Peru & the Phillipines
Do lobbywork at the Flemish & Belgian government
Enjoy the possibility that the file is brought to the international climate top in Paris (COP21)
DURATION 2 weeks (inter-semestral break)
11.11.11. combines the efforts of 70 organizations and 340 committees of volunteers to achieve one common goal: a fairer world with no poverty.

Feminine Beauty - KenyaFeminine Beauty is founded by Sheila Mulli, a female Kenyan entrepeneur. Her goal is to set up a business in reusable sanitary pads (maandverbanden) so girls enhance their chance of going to school.

CHALLENGE Do a comparative study between different African countries
Create a franchising model to implement Baobab Express in other countries

Baobab Express is a Beninese business that provides public transportation to desolate areas. Apart from their main activity they look to stimulate local entrepreneurship.
Sénérgie - SenegalSénérgie is a social business that sells Solar Home Systems in the vicinity of Thiès (Senegal) to help the rural electrification of Senegal.
CHALLENGE Ameliorate the current business plan
Look for other market opportunities to improve the rural electrification

Who are we looking for?
1. All faculties and backgrounds Economic/technical/legal/medical/socio-cultural background.
From third bachelor onwards
2. Interested in entrepreneurship and development cooperation Interested to start, consult for or lobby for an enterprise and to
participate in durable development while doing so.
3. Passion and initiative Willing to take matters into their on hands and have a positive
influence and impact on the world.
And of course…A free summer!
1. Closing Day – October 6th
2. CV + motivation letter (deadline 10th of October) Apply for AFD as a whole, but specify your preferences and motivate.
3. Informal interview (week of 13th – GO/NO-GO 18-19th) Look for competences, experiences, but especially motivation.
4. Teambuilding event (week of the 20th) To kick off the year with a bang!
