Ecosystem And Its Components

ECOSYSTEM AND ITS COMPONENTSBY: .Navaneeth And Team.

WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM?An Ecosystem includes all of the living things (plants, animals and organisms) in a given area, interacting with each other, and also with their non-living environments (weather, earth, sun, soil, climate, atmosphere).

COMPONENTS OF ECOSYSTEMBiotic components : Living organismsAbiotic components : Non-Living organisms

BIOTIC COMPONENTSBiotic components are the living things that shape an ecosystem.

ABIOTIC COMPONENTSAbiotic components are non-living chemical and physical parts of the environment that affect living organisms and the functioning of ecosystems.

FOOD CHAINS AND WEBSFood Chains : It is a series of organisms taking part at various biotic level from the producer and ends in consumer.

Food chains in nature :

TROPHIC LEVELSThese are the various steps or level in the food chain where transfer of food or energy takes place .

Tertiary consumers Secondary consumers Primary consumers

FOOD WEBIt is the network of various food chains which are interconnected at various Trophic levels.

Food web consisting of

many food chains

FLOW OF ENERGYThe flow of energy through different steps in the food chain in unidirectional .This means that energy captured by autotrophs does not revert back to the solar input and it passes to the herbivores .

LEFT OUT TERMSPRODUCERS : Those organisms which produce food by photosynthesis are know as producers.CONSUMERS: Those organisms which depend upon the producers for food ,either directly or indirectly by feeding on other consumers for their sustenance. It can be classified into primary consumer or herbivores , secondary consumer or carnivores , omnivores and parasitesDECOMPOSERES: They are those micro-organisms through which energy is transferred in the form of food by the process of one organism consuming the other .
