A dybbuk (evil spirit) is simply a spiritual servitor, created to carry out simple or complicated tasks for its owner (or whomever summons it). These tasks could be as benevolent as bringing good luck to a business, to more malevolent undertakings such as bringing harm to others, their families, and cursing their personal lives.

It had belonged to a Polish survivor named Havela, who had escaped to Spain prior to her immigration to the United States. Havela purposely sealed a dybbuk inside the box after it contacted her and friends performing a seance with a homemade oracle board.

Who buys a box?Who buys a box?

Mr.Kevin Mannis purchased the wine cabinet at a yard sale.

He owned a small furniture refinishing business. he took the cabinet to his store, and put it in his basement workshop.

What is in that box? What is in that box?Almost immediately, anyone near the box suffered its wrath. First the shop clerk left alone with the box heard cursing and the sound of breaking light fixtures. She fled left the shop in terror, never to return there to work. When Kevin's mother received the box, she suffered a stroke leaving her partially blind, unable to speak and paralyzed. Soon, all kinds of unexplainable events occurred surrounding the box. Anyone who slept near it would have dreams of being pummeled by a demented hag, notice odd scents, and see dark shadowy figures.

Shadow thingsShadow thingsKevin gave the box to his sister, brother and girlfriend, all three of whom returned it to him. He sold it to an older couple, who gave it back days later.A month later, Kevin' sister and brother came over and described their same dream, down to every detail. Suddenly, they all realized the shared link: the box.Since deciding that the blame was on the box, Kevin claimed to see "shadow things" at random; smoke alarms going off with no fire; burnt out lightbulbs; his hair falling out; the stench of cat urine lurking in the air. It led to him listing the box on eBay

Where is it now?Where is it now?

Jason Haxton, the Dibbuk box's current owner, is the museum director at A. T. Still University Museum of Osteopathic Medicine. He is well-respected in his field, and travels the world speaking about medical history and museum artifacts. The Dibbuk box was originally purchased at an estate auction by an unsuspecting antique store owner. Since then, the box has frightened and baffled its owners with the strange activities that surround it, including Haxton himself as the current owner.

Haxton’s experienceHaxton’s experienceHaxton wrote The Dibbuk Box (a book), and claimed that he subsequently developed strange health problems, including hives, coughing up blood, and "head-to-toe welts" His wife experienced "bloody, weeping, blisters" after coming in contact with clothing he wore during a failed containment attempt. His office also experienced the bursting of light bulbs and computer failures akin to Mannis's experiences. Upon removal of the box from the museum, Haxton had locked the box in the back of his truck, parking it at his home in the evening. Haxton experienced nightmares of Hag-like women, not unlike Mannis's claims.

It's not your typical box. For one thing, it's not really a box. It's more of a wine cabinet.

Also, it's haunted by a demon called a dybbuk, which, according to Jewish folklore,

is a malevolent spirit of a dead soul that possesses multiple bodies to achieve oft-

malicious goals. So, again, it's not really a box.

Thank you
