This music video is a performance video but also has elements of it being a narrative video, this is because in some parts of the song, Travis McCoy is lip syncing the words to the song but also has scenes of the story being told. They demonstrate genre characteristics of the pop genre through this, so this is a good example of Goodwin’s theory of genre characteristics.

They also show in this video a link between the lyrics and the visuals, one good example of this is when he says ‘ she even cooks me pancakes ‘ (0:44) and it shows his girlfriend in the video giving him pancakes, this is to build the relationship between the video and the song, also this helps illustrate the lyrics to the viewers

They also use the title of song to illustrate the whole meaning of it, through it the song the lyrics create a meaning for the title on several occasions building up a whole story for the title, an example of where they do this is when it says “and i know its sounds so old, but cupids got me in a choke hold”, this relates to the song title of ‘Cupids Chokehold’ .

This video demonstrates the pop genre on many occasions, with the lyrics and video being fun and entertaining for most people and the colours used in the video are never dull but mainly bright, positive colours.
