Cardboard boxes are commonly used for packaging; however it is corrugated boxes that are mostly used for shipping purposes, especially when the item in question is fragile. These boxes are more durable than cardboard boxes elevating the worry that your goods will be damaged during shipping. Also known as brown boxes, these boxes are eco friendly.

What are Corrugated Boxes?

The sizes of the boxes are measured on the basis of their inner dimension.

US Format (Domestic) – L X B X H International Format – L X W X H These dimensions are decided as per the opening

of the assembled boxes. The longer portion of the two ends of a box is takes as the “length” of the box, while the shorter part is taken as the “width” of the box. The portion perpendicular to the width and length is taken as the “depth” of the box.

Basics About Box

Listed dimensions are always inside dimensions. The first dimension is length.

Length is always the longest side of the box that has a flap. The next dimension is width.

The width side also has a flap, but is always the side shorter than the length.

Height is the only dimension without a flap.The height measurement does not include the flaps.

Measuring A Box...

Corrugating is defined as the imparting of wave-like shape to a paper.Kraft paper or fluting media paper is passed through heated corrugated rolls to obtain continuous rolling, wave-like shape. These are called flutes.

When we look at the edge of Corrugated Paper Board, we will see a row of air columns. The air acts as cushion, while the paper columns make the material strong.

Flutes in Corrugation

There are four types of flutes manufactured in market. They are – A, B, C, D and E.

Three ply, Five ply and Seven Ply combinations are made using these types of flute to get maximum strength.

In this Process, Kraft Paper passes through a Hot pair of gear-like cylinders called Corrugating Rolls. Thus Paper changes into a series of precise waves n we call it Paper flutes. Glue is applied to the tip of these flutes on one side and the flute is pressed against a flat liner. Hence we get a corrugated sheet and we call it liner.

BoilerBoiler is used for heating oil which has to be used in the corrugation machine to heat the rollers.Firewood is used as fuel for burning.
