“Prefabrication isn't a subculture anymore, it's a necessity.”

- Builder Magazine

EVENT OVERVIEW

The prefabrication and modular industry is growing rapidly and is a major segment

in the construction industry. Today, almost all construction projects contain

some degree of offsite manufacturing. There is a plethora of anecdotal evidence to

demonstrate the benets that offsite construction brings, inclusive of faster

delivery, better quality, lesser cost and safer working site.

The opportunity for greater utilisation of offsite manufactured components across the

industry is signicant, however, there is mass number of projects that continues to

use traditional construction methods. This clearly shows that there lacks sufcient

and conclusive evidence as to the value of offsite construction approach amongst

other challenges.

With this in mind, 6th Annual Modular and Precast Construction by Trueventus

is back with more technical and in depth discussion. This year’s event features some

of the industry’s most highly regarded thought leaders, showcasing avant-garde

projects, exploring innovative technology, best practice sharing and addressing the

challenges in the prefabrication industry. Join us on this unique power packed journey

that will make are focusing on providing actionable perception that you can take

home with you and implement!

RATEC – founded in 1994 in Hockenheim, Germany – is trendsetter and innovation leader in the development and production of magnet-based formwork systems for the manufacturing of precast concrete products.

With over 20 years of experience, RATEC delivers its products to customers in over 72 countries worldwide today. From the switchable magnetic box up to complete formwork solutions for automated circulation plants, battery formwork systems and concrete pumps, RATEC has decisively shaped and influenced precast concrete production up to today. Besides standard solutions, individual formwork systems for (almost) all requirements are developed according to customer needs.

Furthermore, with upcrete ® technology RATEC has developed an innovative procedure to pump self-compacting concrete into closed molds, that has set new standards for the vertical production of precast concrete elements up to 3-D room modules. Thus, it offers new – previously unknown - possibilities of prefabrication and provides impetus for those who plan and design the buildings of the future.www.ratec.org

About the workshop leader

DAY 3: Friday, 5th May 2017

Morning Session: Exploring the Off-Site Continuum and Developing Off-Site Elements

Implementing and optimizing prefabricated elements is a complex process, and the proper and intelligent application of the right elements in design and construction is crucial to ensuring success on every project. When developing prefabricated elements, this strategy should be considered in order to achieve the most efcient designs and economies of scale, without compromising technical performance, so that full advantage can be taken of all possible benets. Participants will be taken through:• An in-depth look at XSite’s Off-Site Continuum• Common off-site elements• Participants will also work in small facilitator-led groups to create off-site strategies• A sample case study and examples will be introduced, reviewed and discussed

Key Takeaways:• Participants will understand the importance of considering an off-site methodology from project concept • Gain knowledge of factors to consider when deciding what elements to select and execution strategies for fabrication

Afternoon Session: Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) – Designing for a Manufactured World

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) is a design methodology and principles that detail best practices and innovative strategies for the manufacturing of parts that will form a product after assembly. Understanding its concepts is vital for anyone wishing to be successful in the design, manufacturing or construction implementing prefabrication. During this presentation, DfMA expert Amy Kulka-Marks will list eight essential DfMA principles, and provide tailored examples of each. Ms. Marks shares how to use DfMA to optimize off-site execution strategies and track metrics. This workshop is interactive and high-energy.

Key Takeaways:• Attendees will leave with a rm understanding of the guiding principles of DfMA, and how these apply to prefabrication and construction• Benefits of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA)

Afrming Comments

At Amy’s 2016 workshop on the off-site continuum, 47% of participants said Amy’s workshop exceeded their expectations and the remaining 53% said it met their expectations. Some comments from the feedback forms included:

"Great knowledge of how modular systems can work; Exposed to many experts and practitioners."

- Tony Studart, Turner

"Amy is a dynamic and experience professional who opened her playbook and treated us like her team, a very valuable experience and of big things to come.”

-Charlie Hargroves, Curtin University

"Most of these things I walk away with nothing. This was different." - Paul Shanks, SteelCAD Drafting
