The types of media institution might distribute your product and why A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film. The distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing: for example, directly to the public either theatrically or for home viewing (DVD, video-on-demand, download, television programs through broadcast syndication etc.). A distributor may do this directly, if the distributor owns the theaters or film distribution networks, or through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributors. For our film we decided to choose a small, independent distributor because our film was made on a low end budget and is not a well- known film. We used low quality equipment which led to our budget not being as high as we thought at first. If we were to have a higher budget our camera equipment would be more efficient and better quality, and we would also make sure that the actors that we would use would be more popular. For our film opening we decided to use the distribution company called Warp. Warp Films is a small independent film production company based in Sheffield & London, UK. We choose this company as they are experts at using small budgets but still manage to achieve the same target audience who are British which is the same as our target audience. Warp has distributed some very successful film like the Four Lions and also this is England

A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film.

For our film we decided to choose a small, independent distributor because our film was made on a low end budget and is not a well-known film.

This is the online website of Warp which shows what they are about and examples of films they have distributed.

This image below shows Warp’s Facebook page. By looking at this page I can tell that Warp is a popular site as there are lots of people that have like this page, so it must be a recommended company.

The advertisement of our film would hopefully be aimed at being in the UK. I would like our film to be advertised in a multiplex cinema like the Odeon because a male under 35 is still a wide ranged target audience. Also because people over 35 also like to watch Action films like ours. Another way that our film could be advertised is on buses or in bus stations. I think these ways of advertising are very effective as they cover lots of places around the country. However this way of advertising could

become very expensive.

Examples of films that Warp has distributed from a similar Genre...

I have used IMDB to help me find some examples as it has lots of information and it also has accurate evidence of the information provided.

Conclusion

We have come to the decision that Warp is a really good company to use because of it being a small and independent company. We also decided to use this company as Warp shows a lot experience when coming to distribute films into the right area to exceed the success in the films target audience.

‘This is England’ is a film that has been distributed by Warp. The example that I have found shows that Warp is a good company to use because on the opening weekend the film had gained £207,676, so the film must have been advertise in the correct way. By reading this figure it makes me think that Warp has lots of experience when distributing films.

I have also used ‘The Four Lions’ as an example for evidence why I have chosen the distributer company that I have. The opening weekend that the Four Lions was release, it gained £608,608. By looking at this film’s information it has given me a stronger feeling to use Warp as it shows that they must have efficiently advertised in the UK.
