Concept

For the concept of my video, I want to base it around the idea of love and heartbreak – a common convention within the pop rock genre. Therefor I intend on beginning my music video with a band performance shot. This is to introduce the band to the audience so that I can emphasise that the main protagonist in the narrative is also the vocalist within the band. This helps me to deepen the narrative and create a storyline within the narrative and a slight storyline within the performance, therefore allowing me to link the two at a later stage within the video. I intend on having a young heterosexual couple in love for the original equilibrium of the narrative. The disruption however, causes the two lovers to break up and go their separate ways in life. Although this happens, I intend on portraying to the audience that the vocalist/protagonist still hold strong feelings of love towards the female that he used to share a relationship with. I intend on doing this using many different camera shots and a variety of mise-en-scene, such as a point of view shot from the male’s perspective in which he is looking at a ring in his palm. I have decided this as a ring would be a clear indicator for love due to its stereotypical nature. At this point the protagonist decides that he does not wish to give up on this girl that he is in love with, thus he feels inspired to stop in the middle of his performance to run to said girl and confess exactly how he is feeling towards her. This then leads to a new equilibrium, which is similar to the first however, in this new equilibrium, both the male and female protagonists are seen at the previous performance.

Narrative and Performance

As I mentioned before within my concept, my narrative will consist of a male and female protagonist breaking up and then falling back into love with one another. The performance however will be made up of two important performance sections, the performance and he narrative. For the performance section of the video I intend on using band members to perform the song, as they will be playing the song correctly, therefore allowing the performance segment to be truly effective throughout the whole music video. However, for the narrative segment I intend on employing an actress to portray the female protagonist within the music video as they do not need to be musically talented, however, it is important that during the video they portray a realistic act towards the idea of being in love with the male protagonist. The male protagonist however, will be the lead vocalist. I have decided on this idea, as I believe that it would be very effective to have to have him as the male protagonist within my music video. This also allows me to link the performance segment and narrative segment into one large segment at any point during the course of my music video. Finally I believe that my target audience would find it more appealing to use the vocalist from the band they are listening to as the main male protagonist.

Love

As I mentioned before, my music video will be heavily based around the theme of love. I have chosen this theme as it is a common convention with the pop rock music genre.
