DESCRIPTION

This presentation was given at COABE but I think some transitions won't transfer over. So it may not look as nice as the presentation.

Dear Susan, Thank you for your e-mail. I am the Program Director of an adult ESL program and we would be interested in having teachers attend. Would it be an ongoing, online format or would they go to training? I look forward to hearing from you.

What I Learned: Students learn best when they are independent learners and technology gives them that opportunity.

The project was perfectly described as playing in a sandbox and taking risks. Both higher and lower level Beginning One students  with no computer experience were so amazingly accepting of using each new form of technology. I gave them a safe place to take risks. We would repeat in unison that mistakes were no problem. I learned to give myself the same permission to make mistakes.  Lessons became richer with technology. If students got stuck, we used Smart Board’s Notebook to move around words to understand a grammar point. We applied a lesson’s vocabulary by students making quia games and shopping online for clothing and food.

What I did

• Developed goals after getting participants

• Sent out regular emails reminding everyone what to do

• Allowed for free flow of ideas within the constraints

• Participated in the process!

Page 17: Tip (Technology Integration Project)

What I learned

• Send out regular emails

• Don’t over organize

• Don’t force people to work together

• It is not about how much money you spend on the training!

• Create partnerships with other agencies
